As a certified massage therapist, corrective-exercise specialist, and personal trainer, Stanly Namoa can safely claim to understand the human body. At Bodywork Solution, he draws on his tripartite expertise to help his clients achieve a healthy lifestyle free of the pains of soreness and injury.
In each of his personal-fitness sessions, Namoa devises a customized plan that accounts for individual strengths and works to bolster areas of weakness. Sometimes, these areas of weakness owe to nagging muscle injuries. That’s where his expertise in corrective exercise and massage comes into play. He can lead clients through specific stretches designed to readjust the body or take a more hands-on approach to healing with targeted sports and deep-tissue massages. Since stress can also adversely affect health, Namoa unwinds tension with gentle Swedish massages that may incorporate hot stones or squishy meatballs.

Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job?
Our company motto is, "Put your mind and body at ease." I love having a client-centered practice and not a menu-driven company. Each session puts the client front and center. From the arsenal of my education, I am able to best serve the client with clinical work, energy work, guided meditation, and massage.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
At the end of a massage, I always see if my clients are "fluffy," [which is] when the skin is glowing, and it looks like blood is flowing back into their face. I guess the best reaction I've ever gotten is that dazed look and a "Wow."
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
The body cannot relax if the mind is preoccupied by the day's events. We specialize in soul, jazz, and Brazilian playlists, and a customer can create their own playlist on 8tracks.com.
Looking to start a business in order provide exactly the brand of relaxation she was after, Christine McDannell founded Eco Chateau Mission Valley. The spa is designed from the ground up to promote sustainable, environmentally conscious practices that she valued, while still providing luxurious pampering. Her wide-ranging service selection covers any sort of wellness need, from massages to fresh-pressed juice cleanse to organic facials. The success of the Mission Valley location spurred the opening of a second location, Eco Chateau Sorrento Valley.
The fixtures use power sparingly, emitting a low pleasant light throughout the solar-powered chateau that automatically switches off after business hours. The walls and floors themselves feature recycled, reclaimed, and energy efficient materials, right down to the bamboo floor boards saved from the dessert bar of a panda buffet. She reflects this commitment to nature in the spa's services by using cruelty-free products, most of which are organic and locally sourced whenever possible.
Achieving a sense of physical and mental wellbeing requires more than a daily soak in the vitamin jacuzzi. Luckily, the staff at The Wellness Lounge takes a multifaceted approach to fostering that inner and outer balance. The holistic health practitioners work together to provide nonsurgical, medication-free alternatives to traditional medical procedures, all with the intent of helping their clients live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Those alternatives can take any number of forms. Chiropractic adjustments, for instance, might help restore function throughout the body, while massages can incorporate a variety of specialized modalities to address each recipient's particular concerns. Traditional acupuncture treatments combine with therapies such as moxibustion or cupping to address ailments and promote healing. The clinic moves beyond the purely clinical, too, hosting therapeutic yoga classes that emphasize mind-body connections. And, delivering on the "lounge" half of its name, the center also offers such relaxing touches as an on-site tea room and extremely polite massage chairs.
At SomaSense Bodywork, therapists perform traditional massage, yet specialize in what's known as somatic bodywork. The main tenet of somatic bodywork is that the health of the body is intrinsically tied to the health of the mind. And so it follows that challenges arise when they perform separately instead of in tandem. Somatic treatments combine release of bodily tension with the release of emotional tension, ushering clients toward an overall state of peace.
Massage therapists perform a variety of massage techniques including deep-tissue, Swedish, aromatherapy, and even Ashiatsu, which is performed with the therapists feet while they hang from an overhead bar.
Also fostering this sense of peace is the workspace. Located inside the historic Martin House, the studio is decorated with homey touches, such as cozy wing-back chairs and plush rugs, all of which encourage clients to leave cares at the door.
With private, open-air massage-therapy areas and treatments featuring the essences of locally grown plants, The Spa at Estancia La Jolla complements the outdoor-oriented ambiance of the hacienda-style resort. The resort is set on nearly 10 acres of carefully landscaped botanical gardens, with native plants and a heated outdoor pool where spa guests relax on padded chaises longues. Nature finds its way inside as well, via a eucalyptus-infused steam room and massages enhanced by organic lavender and rosemary.
In 2012, the day spa earned recognition from readers of the La Jolla Village News and the La Jolla Light. Specials such as Tapas Thursdays and the invigorating midday Empowerment Lunch allow patrons to sample the award-winning facials, massages, manicures, and pedicures.
