Now in its 31st year of facsimile fiefdom, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival transports fair-goers to 16th-century England with the reimagining of a 35-acre village jam-packed with spectacular performers, delicious eats, and old-fashioned shoppes. Merry men and maidens of all ages will carouse through an immersive schedule of more than 200 daily performances, highlighted by the Royal Falconer's presentation of his birds, three combat jousts daily, sword fights, jugglers, and knife-throwers taking aim at sass-mouthed jesters. Making the rounds among the crowds are 150 in-character volunteers dressed as resplendent royalty, ethereal faeries, and one fully conjoined Queen Anne Boleyn.

4-C Stables hands equine enthusiasts the reins to its team of even-tempered horses for trail rides, camps, and lessons within its expansive facility. Stable owner Stacey, a veterinary technician by training, heads up 4-C's 60-minute horsemanship lessons, which are tailored to each rider's experience and introduce varied aspects of horses and horse care. Students begin with the basics of safety and grooming before matriculating to more advanced equitation topics, such as dismounting and riding in slow motion for dramatic effect. With successful completion of all beginner-level requirements, students can graduate to intermediate studies, where they learn such skills as proper care of the tack, issuing verbal commands, and riding with the correct posture.

For the first time in its history, the family-owned and operated The Southern Cross invites the public to roam its 40 acres and participate in outdoor activities ranging from rock climbing to petting barnyard animals. Located minutes away from downtown Dallas, the majestic property greets guests with a panorama of ponds, native crab-apple trees, and century-old oaks. Visitors can scale a 24-foot-tall fiberglass rock-climbing wall, fish with provided equipment at the catch-and-release pond, or set off in a paddleboat in hopes of proving that the world is round and actually made of churnable butter. Children can contemplate eternity in the enclosed playground, while jumping in an inflatable house, or trading small-fry salutations in a toddlers’ play area. The grounds also boasts a petting zoo, a 4-foot-deep party pool, and water-balloon-launching facilities capable of lobbing aqueous projectiles up to 75 feet or into the eye of a giant Isaac Newton.
