The fleet of ships owned by Davey's Locker Whale Watching ferries passengers around on a variety of cruises and tours. Guests can try to spot up to 10,000 migrating gray, finback, blue whales, as well as dolphins on year-round cruises, take in the scenery on sunset or evening cruises, or celebrate our independence from the tyranny of the metric system on July Fourth fireworks cruises.

The well-equipped ships keep passengers comfortable with such amenities as large indoor salons with indoor seating, full bars, and sun decks. All cruises depart from Newport Bay; at Christmas time, the spot twinkles with lights as the famed Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade commences.

Water laps against the edge of the boat as a a dolphin leaps over waves just off the port side. Its smooth, graceful body arcs through the water, swimming with the speed only a set of flippers can muster. Ocean Explorer Cruises seeks out magical moments like this one on the deep blue sea, giving guests a chance to encounter everything from sunsets to Humpback whales. Cruises depart from Newport Bay and set off in search of marine environments on whale watching cruises, romantic settings on sunset cruises, and Christmas light displays or American flags and fireworks on holiday cruises.

Nestled against the edge of the Kenai Fjords National Park, Miller's Landing retains much of the natural scenery and charm that surrounded the area when the Miller family first built its homestead on the site in the 1950s. The small community has withstood earthquakes, fires, and the Earth's transition from black and white into color to grow into a premiere camping destination where wilderness seekers can pitch tents or rent quaint cottages. The location surrounds its visitors in panoramic views of Resurrection Bay, Mount Alice, and Fox Island, inviting them to hike across its coastal trails.

Relaxing and adventurous activities complement Miller's scenic landscapes, with local experts leading boat tours and chartering fishing expeditions. Horseback tours trek across secluded terrain, whereas sea-kayak classes float in the shadow of snow and whipped-cream-capped mountains.

Just minutes south of Laguna Beach, SoCal Dolphin Adventures takes passengers on peaceful animal-sighting treks along the southern California coast. Rather than use a large whale-watching vessel, SoCal's cozy boat fits a maximum of six people, giving everyone unobstructed views of natural wildlife, such as dolphins and sea lions. Our three-hour adventures trek up to seven miles up or down the coast for a better chance of spotting animals and fuzzy seaweed banks you can later claim were mermaids. Careful to never disrupt marine habitats, each tour leaves plenty of time to snap pictures and wait for whales to breach.

The vessel, Shoreliner, is no stranger to the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Originally built in 1960s to speedily shuttle ferry passengers to and from Catalina Island, Greg Watson Sr.?a seasoned captain with 35 years of seafaring experience?purchased the vessel in 2013 and completely refurbished it to better provide a luxuriant experience for private parties as well as tour groups. The 65-foot, aluminum-hulled vessel slices through the water at a cruising speed of 14 knots, leaving the coastline behind while as many as 130 guests can enjoy the views from the indoor seating section, the upper-deck seating, or the bow or stern areas. For private parties, the Shoreliner features two flat-screen televisions and a DVD player in its main salon, as well as a fully stocked bar that can help keep spirits high throughout the cruise. The crew also offers educational cruises in the form of two-hour, whale-watching tours, which give invaluable insight into the local marine life while providing opportunities for passengers to actually see gray whales, blue whales, bottlenose dolphins, and even hitchhiking mermaids depending on the season.
