A kaleidoscope of designer fabrics in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures exists just behind Swatches' unassuming brick storefront. For more than 35 years, this locally owned and operated business has assembled a massive collection of fabrics and accessories from workrooms based in Cincinnati and around the United States. Within the showroom’s expansive interior, trims and tassels sway alongside more than 1,000 bolts of fabric from designers such as Duralee, Kravet, and Fabricut. Meanwhile, the staff of seasoned home decorators stands by to assist customers, offering them counsel on appropriate design schemes or directing them toward textiles that can withstand messes made by kids, pets, and roommates who work as part-time finger-painters.
The merchandise at Legacies spans home furnishings, antiques, accessories, jewelry, and phased plasma rifles in the 40-watt range. Like the Borg, its stock is constantly shifting, adapting, and evolving, so drop in to see exactly what the shop's latest incarnation looks like. Most items cost between $20 and $150. Vintage earrings start at $48, and sterling-silver necklaces are around $50. A 14-piece set of wine goblets, clean and ready for wine gobbling, is $25, and the surfboard coffee table to put them on is $75. Furniture such as oak dressers, painted nightstands, wicker rockers, and gold-framed mirrors all await excavation ($55–$95) from the Legacies treasure trove, which has also included rugs, china, artwork, lamps, silver, and even chandeliers. One lucky customer even found a large golden box, though it contained only a couple of worthless stone tablets and some face-melting ghosts.
Since 1902, Sterling Cut Glass's team of raffish adventurers have traveled the world acquiring its highest-quality handmade glassware and crystal treasures, first for the shop's colorful in-store displays and now for its 1080p online shop. A wide array of products from classic brands await to sparkle in the eyes of crystal connoisseurs, including Waterford round ring holders ($65), Marquis by Waterford votives ($39), Orrefors bowls ($45), and Miller Rogaska martini glasses ($35) and cakestands ($85). All of the shiny glass goods can be bought as is or personalized with a monogram to make sure that your exquisite crystal coffee vase doesn't get confused with anyone else's at the office.
NVISION carries a large inventory of handcrafted, recycled, secondhand, and vintage clothing and home furnishings that caters to one-of-a-kind tastes and delights artistically funky sensibilities. Dream about how much tastier your cooking would be if you wore a red and white polka-dotted rooster apron ($15), or practice twirling with a mannequin dressed in a green sparkly dress by Mr. McIver ($36). If your head prefers wearing hats to wearing kittens, try on a natural straw hat ($25), which features decorative straw flowers. Feet will rest comfortably when perched upon a stripey chenille and muslin handmade pillow ($15) from Emily B, while smokers can exhale cinematically with a ceramic Italian smoking set ($40) complete with ashtray, tobacco box, and refillable lighter.
SheLax Nail Studio may be new, but Maria Desembly has been in the nail business for more than 11 years. A background in health care directs Maria's gentle, hygienic touch as she tidies up the fingers and toes of both men and women. After filing, shaping, and buffing, she can outfit all 20 tappers with basic polish or safeguard their shine with acrylics or Shellac, which resists chips, nicks, and the urge to plunge into freshly frosted birthday cakes for far longer.
