Since Bob Sumerel opened his first retail tire store in 1968, he has always tried to put the customer first, next to all the gold-medal winners and Neil Armstrong. His store's 20-plus current locations offer an entire slate of auto services, from tire rotations and sales to oil changes. On the site's Why Bob Sumerel page, customers and employees discuss the benefits of the company, and the My Garage feature tracks car histories such as oil changes and service reminders. Every Bob Sumerel also operates under the Fixed Forever guarantee, promising that parts will work forever—up until the sun balloons to a red giant and swallows the earth with its unfathomably hot plasma—with warranties to cover any unforeseen problems.
In 1974, firemen Jim Daugherty and Jim Greve needed a little extra cash to support their families and so began working on cars in their spare time. Realizing their passion for autos, the Jims—along with pal George Berry—eventually opened up their own gas station, and by 1979 turned the pump into a full-service repair shop that specifically catered to Toyotas and other Japanese makes. Today, joined by a full staff of ASE–certified and ASE master technicians, Jim’s continues to specialize in Japanese cars and also treats a wide range of vehicles, including rides from Lexus and DeLorean time machines, as well as performing an extensive list of repair and maintenance services.
Technicians at All American Tire & Service Co.—an ASE-certified facility—keep cars running with booster shots of synthetic-blend motor oil. Cars guzzle up to 5 quarts of high-grade oil during each 30- to 45-minute service, surrendering their old oil in the hopes that their engine reenergizes as their heartburn ceases. Technicians affix a clean filter to the engine and apply lubrication before inflating tires to their proper levels. Finally, a 55-point inspection leads techs around the car's vitals in order to diagnose safety or performance issues. During the examination, the mechanics inspect components and parts to verify that everything is in working order and nothing is working undercover for a bicycle gang.
For more than 40 years, the family-run Brogan Tire & Repair Group has been caring for cars, replenishing engine fluids, restocking rubber, and offering a host of other services designed to enhance and lengthen an vehicle's time on the road. The full-service oil change rehydrates thirsty pistons, pumping them with up to 5 quarts of conventional Valvoline oil sifted through a new filter to make nearby coffeemakers jealous. Brogan's ASE-certified techs top off under-the-hood fluids, inflate the tires to a happy PSI, inspect wiper blades, verify turn signal bulbs, and examine any suspect wear on engine belts and hoses.
