The pilots at DC Skydiving Center fly to heights of up to 2 miles before divers of all skill levels hurl themselves from the plane's side door. Before they ever leave the ground, though, students receive a safety briefing and thorough explanation of the jump process. The center’s instructors specialize in calming the jitters of newbie divers by strapping in with them on tandem dives, but they also regularly shed single tears as more experienced adrenaline junkies pull out their own parachute at the culminating point of accelerated free-fall programs. Once in the air, the small aircraft's large, panoramic windows grant breathtaking views of the capitol skyline and Blue Ridge Mountains, all of which are captured on RVT video by instructors on the descent.

Skydive Orange's first plane-to-sky plunge happened in 1977, and the business has been safely guiding students through the skies ever since. The coaches and instructors here are all USPA-rated, and offer tandem skydiving for beginners as well as Accelerated Freefall programs for advanced skydivers. Whatever their level of experience, students learn the fundamentals inside of air conditioned classrooms before boarding the plane, and leaping from heights up to 2.5 miles. Once the parachute deploys, divers gracefully coast to a designated zone to the sound of applause from watching family members and the boos of jealous penguins situated on nearby bleachers. Jumps are commemorated with a certificate and logbook, and Skydive Orange also has a videographer on staff who can film the experience for skydivers who want video documentation of their leap.

Though they begin their adventure at Skydive Deep Creek?s home base, visitors won?t really remember the facility. That?s because most of their time will be spent hovering above the airport at 13,500 feet. Beginners take to the sky safely attached to an experienced diver during tandem jumps, and serious enthusiasts can fly through the air while training for skydiving certification.

Instructor Neil Porter orchestrates all the site?s jumps, using know-how earned during his time at Airborne school in the army and while obtaining his skydiving instructor certification. At Skydive Deep Creek, Neil guides beginners through the process of learning to skydive, from tandem diving to individual jumps.

For clients who just want a taste of the adrenaline-pounding sport, Neil performs tandem jumps, during which a guest is attached to him with a secure harness. While they jump together, Neil controls the parachute, which allows guests to relax and enjoy the thrill ride. The company?s optional videography and photography services capture every whoop, flip, and freefall. Visitors who want to learn to pull the strings themselves can take classes in the four levels of skydiving certification, in which they learn all the skills necessary to jump on their own or finally be in charge on parachute day in gym class.

Nestled in the green hills of the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Skydiving Adventures gives skydivers their first taste of thrilling free fall. Composed of experienced instructors that take the time to get to know the people they'll shepherd through the clouds, the team makes sure to thoroughly educate each new jumper in the mechanics of the jump taking the student up to experience the adrenaline rush of a free fall. Each jumper will have an opportunity to embark on a accelerated-freefall training regimen that teaches the necessary skills for a successful solo free-fall skydive.
