When The Yoga Underground's four passionate instructors aren't shopping for shoes, watching the sun rise while hiking up Mount Timp, or partaking in the great American pastime of wearing crazy socks, they're hitting the mat to teach students how to build physical strength and emotional wellness. Although they consider themselves students of the ancient practice of yoga, they aren't afraid to add some modern twists into the Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga traditions, such as incorporating core-bolstering moves from Pilates and, according to instructor Brittany, playing "really awesome music." They offer an octet of lighthearted, yet challenging classes, which includes two fast-paced kick-asana classes, a primary series, and a lunchtime yoga session that accommodates working yogis on the go.
Ease into the day with a 6:45 a.m. Vinsyana yoga class with rising-sun salutations on Mondays or empower your prettiest part with a belly-dance class on Thursdays. Hula-hoop dance and urban hip-hop bring rhythm, grace, and choreography into any weekly routine or routine of salvaging dryer lint to stuff a spare mattress. New classes are added to The Spot's schedule about every six weeks, so fast learners can mix and match their five to master the fancy footwork of a wide array of dances (all classes must be redeemed within five weeks of attending the first session.)
Training Ground OC breathes new life into exercise routines by offering a handful of specialty fitness programs, many centered around restoring ex-athletes to peak form. At the facility, coaches Ben, Kasia, and Michelle infuse their expertise and motivation into those programs, augmenting each with additional nutritional support. Clients can upgrade their physique with semi-private training or small-group training, a group-based program that organizes like-minded exercisers together based on similar goals. Designed for everyone from athletes to busy professionals, or for those who foresee a rigorous prison break in their future, the CORE Condition Fitness Camp mixes strength training, interval training, metabolic conditioning, and athletic-performance drills into one intense program.
