Sherwood Ice Arena welcomes people of all ages to lace up their skates and hit the ice seven days a week during public skate, group lessons, and sport programs. On staff are more than 15 coaches who earned their skating chops with years of figure skating or hockey playing, and who impart their icy wisdom during group and private lessons for children, adolescents, and adults. Classes include a basic Learn to Skate course for true beginners, which is based on the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program. The arena's more than 50 hockey leagues divide players into eight divisions based on their ability to balance a stick on their chins. Skaters can also relax during Friday-night date nights and special-occasion skating parties that can accommodate various group sizes. The onsite pro shop outfits skaters with a range of equipment from more than 20 brands including CCM, Mission, and Nike.

The sleek, wooden rink that houses Gresham Skate World has buzzed with the whir of wheels since 1974, when the facility first swung open its doors to a community that now encompasses multiple generations of skaters. The rink provides safe, family-friendly entertainment seven days a week, offsetting standard open skates with a lineup of special events, ranging from all-night sessions to cosmic skating on weekends. To help celebrate special events or dodge bounty hunters, reserve one of Gresham Skate World's private rooms. The center's onsite skate shop stocks an assortment of accessories, and the snack bar fuels full days of axels and dips with hot dogs, nachos, and pizza.

Since 1981, all 10,000 square feet of Hillsboro Skate World’s rink has been filled with the whoosh of roller skates, which can be heard during public-skate sessions and private birthday parties, when skaters of all ages glide and spin underneath colorful lights and the hum of popular music. Late-night and all-night skate events transform the rink into a themed arena with decorations and activities for occasions such as a Spooky Friday the 13th. Between skates, legs can rest at tables or benches, while hands grab hot dogs, nachos, and other noshables from the snack bar.

Close to half a century of history seeps through the ice at Winterhawks Skating Center, as evidenced by the wooden beams still arching across its ceiling. As the official practice facility of the Western Hockey League's Portland Winterhawks, the center echoes with slap shots, bodychecks, and figure eights throughout the year, hosting recreational hockey leagues and clinics for youths and adults as well as public skating sessions and lessons for all experience levels. Off the rink, an onsite pro shop helps players to upgrade their old equipment or replace the paisley furniture and shag carpets in the penalty box.

Known to some as the "Coney Island of the Northwest", Oaks Park has delighted families since 1905, making it one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the country. A lot has changed in the past century, but a few things remain the same. For example: guests can still hitch a ride on the hand-craved horses that adorn the park's Noah's Ark-themed carousel, which has welcomed riders since 1911. Of course, the thrills have grown by leaps and bounds since then—today guests can enjoy more than 20 rides including go carts, spinning hot air balloons, and the Looping Thunder roller coaster, which terrifies and delights with a 360-degree loop and multiple hairpin turns.

While the outdoor rides all shut down for the winter, Oaks Park indoor roller skating rink keeps the fun going year-round. In addition to hosting birthday parties, open skate sessions, and special events such as roller dance classes, the rink is also home to a vintage pipe organ that provides a festive and fitting soundtrack to the old-fashioned fun.
