Peak Zone Fitness's instructors use science to burn calories. They give each student a heart-rate monitor, which handily helps them figure out when they've reached a level of cardiovascular exercise that burns the most calories. The rest of the workout centers around building slowly through the four preceeding heart-rate zones. Once students reach their peak zone, they sustain for a while before cooling down. This level of engagement keeps the calories burning post workout, as the body consumes more energy to aid with recovery.
