  • Urban Dogg
Pups stand taller after a visit to Urban Dogg. Here a rank of self-serve wash stations await dogs and their owners, who help their charges find that show-dog look with shampoos made from natural ingredients. For an additional fee, the staff will also wash and fluff dogs, and treat them to full grooming services if needed, such as combing out the coats of dogs who feel they are too mature for their dreadlocks.

  • Lucca Bella Doggie Spa and Boutique
The loving staff at Lucca Bella Doggie Spa and Boutique treats each and every dog like a four-legged family member, pampering them with spa-like grooming services and providing a home away from home in their climate-controlled daycare rooms. While leaving the house is undeniably exciting for a dog, Lucca Bella fosters a calm and peaceful spa experience by using all-natural grooming products, hand-drying manes instead of using noisy blow-dryers, and keeping antagonistic squirrels out of sight. For puppy facials and baths, the canine caretakers go at a speed the dog is comfortable with to avoid unnecessary stress. During daycare sessions, owners gain peace of mind knowing their canine companion is making new friends in Lucca Bella's indoor, climate-controlled play area and outdoor sunbathing spot.

  • The Pooch Patio
When pets get dropped off at The Pooch Patio, it's not the just the dogs who want to stay forever. Both daycare and boarding charges relish the playtime they get with like-minded dogs, as they lounge in the indoor playroom or gallop around the 2,000-square-foot outdoor run. The groomers work to get pups clean and fluffy, or stand by to help owners using the self-service grooming stations, which earned the facility one of several nods from D Magazine, most recently in 2012. But once pups' owners see the sun-drenched outdoor patio, where they can settle down with an espresso or glass of wine from the onsite Java Haus and Wine Bistro, they might never leave. And once they find out they can use the free wireless internet to work or redesign the doghouse they just built in Minecraft, they might need to reserve an overnight suite for themselves as well.

  • Dallas World Aquarium
The Dallas World Aquarium Endangered Asian arowana flash lustrous orange and green scales; a Victorian crowned pigeon shakes its cerulean tufts and spreads its turquoise wings; 16-inch fairy penguins waddle across a forest floor. And that’s all before you hit the admissions booth. The Dallas World Aquarium’s Borneo exhibit greets guests to the zoo and aquarium with a preview of the colorful, exotic wildlife that await them inside. But the animals aren’t just there for visitors’ entertainment—the aquarium plays a large role in conservation efforts not just in the U.S., but around the world, and yhe majority of its residents are endangered or threatened in the wild. Once inside, guests explore each critter’s natural habitat as they delve into exhibits that emulate different global regions, much like the control centers run by evil TV weathermen. The eight-story Mundo Maya’s 400,000-gallon Cenote river teems with sharks, rays, and sea turtles indigenous to the Yucatan Peninsula. In the Orinico exhibit, crocodiles and red-bellied piranhas form a menacing welcoming committee in the water, but residents of the sloth forest remain unconcerned, moseying lazily from branch to branch. Outside in a mock South Africa habitat aptly named tomato frogs, squat and orange like their namesake, hop around a flourishing botanical garden, alongside Madagascan big-headed turtles and black-footed penguins. And in the aquarium, a 20,000 gallon walk-through tunnel lets guests get up close and personal with hundreds of Indo-Pacific fishes and sea critters, including the blue-dot stingray—named for the blue specks scattered across its yellow coat.

  • Park Cities Pet Sitter
Though pet parents may want to be with their adopted offspring at all times, it's not always possible. Luckily for them, Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. can take over in a pinch. The accommodating company unleashes its fleet of insured and bonded employees to walk dogs, pet sit overnight, and chauffeur charges to the vet's office or a photo shoot for a new pet calendar. And to ensure the sitters are well equipped to care for furry friends, they receive ongoing training, including pet first aid certification from the American Red Cross. The company also keeps a supervisor on call 24 hours a day every day of the year to offer advice or an extra pair of hands if needed.

  • Highland Park Animal Clinic
When Roald Dahl wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he imagined a much-coveted golden ticket that granted access to myriad wonders and unveiled the inner workings of an entire industry. MetaBody created a real-life version of that ticket with the MetaBody Yoga & Fitness Pass, though it applies to fitness instead of candy. The pass grants access not to a single gym but to classes at a variety of local studios, specializing in everything from yoga to boot camp. With the freedom to move from location to location, students can sample different regimens, instructors, and styles of exercise to cobble together a program that fits their needs and goals. MetaBody's nutritionists supplement class packages by coaching clients in healthy eating, recipe cooking, and speed-reading nutrition-fact labels.
