Stylist Hector perfected the art of cutting, coloring, and styling hair while a student at Paul Mitchell School East Bay. Now a seasoned pro, he works from within the walls of Diablo Beauty Salon, detaching unwanted wisps of hair from the heads of children, men, and women. He also highlights strands and straightens unruly locks using smoothing treatments.
A cream-colored spa accented by green sprouts, marble, and stone sets the stage for relaxation at Aqua Lifestyle Nail Salon & Spa, where skilled aestheticians bolster beauty with services for the skin, hair, and nails. Wrinkles and furrows fade into oblivion as the staff tightens skin with Lumière LED facials and turns back the clock on sun damage with the lightening peel’s cocktail of lactic acid and brightening serums. Kneeling at the foot of 1 of 17 plush pedicure chairs, a technician culls overgrowing nails, curbs wayward cuticles, and ousts spent skin with a sea-salt scrub, promoting relaxation and the joyful urge to commute via kickline. Among the salon’s other services, airbrush tanning bronzes bodies without UV exposure and gentle head-to-toe waxing treatments strip away hair with warm wax.
Kristi Clifford is not only experienced in attaching lash extensions but also certified. She draws on her training to individually attach faux-mink lashes to natural fringe, adding length and fullness for more dramatic eyes. The extensions last up to one month and are said to be lighter than synthetic lashes and more natural looking, which is important for blending in with the humans.
Kristi enhances eyes inside Indulge Salon, where she works with stylists and skincare specialists who cut and color hair or reduce fine lines with vitamin C facials. After beautifying clients, the staff sends them to the salon’s boutique, which is stocked with a collection of accessories, jewelry, and handbags.
You can tell you're in Salon L by the overlapping Ls on the wall—one in serif font, and one in flourishing cursive. Then again, you might also recognize the salon by the presence of its owner, Lisha Lievore. A local stylist for more than 15 years, Lisha specializes in multidimensional color and Vidal Sassoon's hair cutting techniques. Salon L has an onsite aesthetician who can wax away unwanted stubble, or brighten complexions with an array of facials, rather than by flustering customers until their blush sticks permanently.

A tangerine accent wall serves as a single pop of color in a stark white salon stocked with chrome-and-white furniture. Natural light warms the space, illuminating Salon Amour’s beauty experts as they employ hair and makeup products by Aveda to revitalize tired strands and restore beauty to dull visages. Since 1995, the salon has been dedicated to using all-natural plant-based Aveda products and color line. Aveda's eco-friendly products come in packaging made from recycled materials and contain ingredients derived from the essences of plants and flowers.
At each chair, a retractable hairdryer hangs from the ceiling, which helps stylists multitask and swing over to the next station without touching the hot lava—i.e. the hardwood floor. In addition to hair and makeup services, the salon beautifies clients with facials and body waxing, and it alleviates tension with massages.
