Julie Luther has spent the last 25 years encouraging greater health and fitness in whatever way she can. She has shared fitness secrets as a columnist for the Greensboro News and Record, created and hosted her own televised fitness show, and even spent three years training members of the Marine Corps Reserve. She continues her efforts at Julie Luther's PurEnergy Fitness Center, and has recruited a staff certified in personal training, spinning, yoga, and other fields to help people get in shape.
Rows of treadmills, weight machines, stationary bikes, and elliptical machines line the sage-green walls inside her intimate studio. Instructors encourage students through body-sculpting, yoga, and spinning classes, as well as SilverSneakers workouts designed to help older clients stay in shape and hustle youngsters in footraces. The coaches also structure specialized boot camps and 12-week personal-training programs to help individuals attain personal goals.
It's hard to get out rock climbing regularly. Basketball courts don't fit in the average home. The facilities at The Rush Fitness let everyone get in an exciting workout, though, with climbing walls, pools, athletic courts, and more. At 23 locations in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Dalton, Asheville, Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point and Greenville, skilled trainers preside over those amenities. They also lead more than 500 group exercise classes, which might touch on everything from yoga to Zumba. We believe in teaching our clients how to do our exercise programs, as well as how their bodies work and how the exercises we are prescribing will help them achieve their fitness goals. We also combine a scientific approach with energetic instructors, upbeat music, and a community environment that keep our clients motivated.
What's the most radical physical transformation you've seen a client make?
When one woman first joined us, she couldn't look people in the eye and refused to work with a male trainer. Today, she is a new person: 60 pounds lighter, stronger, more confident, and completely comfortable with all our trainers. In her personal life, she also found the courage to make a major career change.
