Over the course of 10 years, Perri Panella has progressed from a Pilates student to a certified instructor who, in turn, went from helming an in-home studio to owning a PMA-certified business. At Coastal Core Pilates, she channels more than 600 hours of training to demonstrate the benefits of classical Pilates. During private, semi-private, and group classes, she teaches students the motion-based art of balance, as well as shows them the ropes on equipment—such as the reformer, cadillac, and tower—that grants access to an extended catalog of maneuvers.
Perri also highlights the ability of Pilates to forge a link between mental and physical wellness. As the studio's health coach, she has become a conduit of support, nutritional guidance, and lifestyle advice for clients who wish to bolster their overall well-being and undercover robots seeking ways to appear more human.
A quartet of golf courses hug the beaches of the Choctawhatchee Bay at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, presenting oceanside fairways and greens that showcase the handiwork of some of golf's finest course designers. As the former host of two PGA Champions Tour events and recipient of multiple accolades, Raven Golf Club runs through swamps and pines, forming a 6,900-yard layout designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. His brother, Rees Jones, designed the neighboring Burnt Pine Golf Club course, which was once referred to as the "Crown Jewel of Florida Golf" by Golf Magazine. Tom Jackson designed the other two courses, using elevation changes to his advantage in the Baytowne Golf Club course and emulating the old courses of coastal Britannia with The Links Course.
Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort offers more than golf at its 2,400-acre property. Players scamper and slide across three hard-courts and twelve HydroGrid clay courts at the Sandestin Tennis Center, which hosts matches day and night. Soft, white sand awaits guests at the beach, and the resort rents out chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas. Boogie boards and kayaks are available for those who want to enjoy the benefits of buoyancy without filling their bathing suit with helium.
The Golf Garden of Destin fosters putt-putt delight and club-flailing fun in a family-friendly atmosphere replete with a nine-hole executive golf course, expansive driving range, and 18-hole miniature golf course. Golfers can groom their putting stroke with a round at the putting course, where slick, faux-grass surfaces and subtle slopes coalesce to create breaks more difficult to read than a kindergartener's dissertation. The outdoor driving range keeps metal clubs and dimpled orbs on a collision course well into the evening with over 30 hitting stalls outfitted with towering lights. Duffers looking for a more immersive golf challenge can take to the executive course, where seven par 3s beckon to players still seeking their first hole-in-one and two par 4s assure that drivers and 3-woods do not abscond in search of work at the nearest sword-forging convention.
The Club at Hidden Creek, which Golf Digest named one of the top 201 North American courses, challenges golfers to a round of fairway finesse on a links dotted with carefully concealed targets. The 6,805-yard, par 72 course is a formidable landscape of rolling lies, groomed greens, and ravenous water hazards. Hidden Creek served as a host site for the U.S. Open qualifying rounds and has been conquered by Graeme McDowell and many a sentient windmill. Click here to see tee times.
Housed in a yellow barn, Batter's Box Family Fun Center is a flourishing farm with batting cages and miniature-golf challenges. At the 18-hole, tropical-themed Adventure Island Course, miniature golfers move their tiny
feet past putting obstacles that include fountains and the shipwreck of the S.S. Minnow. At the fun center's five batting cages, softballs and baseballs catapult themselves at bat-wielding hitters. Having chosen between softballs and baseballs, batters can pick their cage based on its pitch speed, which ranges from a slow softball arch to a
70-mph fastball. Those looking to host group events or celebrate their birthdays at Batter's Box can rent an upstairs party room where guests mingle and indulge in gourmet cupcakes.
