Known as “The Mariachi House,” Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant fills the streets of Mexicantown with the scents of sizzling fajitas and the sounds of feet stomping to music provided by mariachis, bands, and live DJs. Shredded cheese entangles steak, pork, chicken, and seafood within steaming tacos and enchiladas as imported pints of Corona, Dos Equis, Tecate, Sol, Bohemia, and Modelo bubble forth from the bar. Margaritas composed of eight different tequilas raise spirits at weekday buffets, weekend dance parties, or weeklong snipe hunts.

If your family opened an upscale restaurant, it would likely feel like Giovanni’s Ristorante. This is because Giovanni’s is a family establishment that treats its patrons like they are family also. The Old-World style Italian restaurant makes its pasta from scratch and grows many of its ingredients in its community garden. The dining areas are kept small and private - perfect for hosting formal events. Formal dress isn’t required at Giovanni’s, but you will not feel out of place if you show up in a suit. You should, however, make reservations. Because of the intimate atmosphere and made-from-scratch menu, they often remain booked to capacity.

Although the Detroit location of Las Cazuelas Grill is housed in the same building as a BP gas station, the cuisine was never meant to be road food. Maria Cristina Aldana began by learning her husband's recipes for iconic Mexican dishes and she named her restaurant after the traditional terracotta dishes used in Hispanic kitchens. These home-style touches demonstrate Maria's commitment to creating familiar, satisfying meals. She makes grilled steak, marinated pork, and chicken mainstays throughout the menu, and she uses them in everything from tacos and burritos to tortas and quesadillas. Three salsas can add a fresh dose of spice to any meal, and diners can customize their tacos by ordering them with corn, flour, or a taxpayer identification number spelled out in tomatoes. Those looking seeking a sit-down dining experience can visit the Melvindale location and savor Maria Cristina's same authentic Mexican recipes.

Growing up with eight siblings, Rafael López came to value the nights when the whole clan gathered around meals. Using recipes from his homeland, the Mexican native now re-creates such feasts at Señor López Mexican Restaurant. Rafael's culinary team showcases their talents with specialties such as housemade tamales and cheese-filled fried poblano peppers covered in special ranchera sauce. The rest of Señor López's enormous menu spans the spectrum of classic Mexican flavors, from vegetarian fajitas and beef-tongue tacos to breakfast burritos filled with chorizo and eggs.

You can check off a lot of groceries and errands from your list at Prince Valley Market. The market specializes in Mexican- and Latin-American groceries—there’s an in-house tortilleria that turns out handmade tortillas, for example. There’s a substantial produce section with locally raised veggies, as well as a bakery where you can order custom-made birthday cakes. Beyond standard grocery shopping, though, you can also take advantage of in-store convenience services such as cashing a check, buying stamps, sending packages, or converting loose coins into bills and coupons for shoulder massages.

The market is a one-stop shop for parties: colorful, custom-made cakes and treat-stuffed piñatas are available. You can even stop by the Baja Mexican Grill for a tasty lunch of carnitas, enchiladas, and rotisserie chicken.
