Following NRA curriculum, the certified instructors at Safe-House Group, LLC help men and women take their very first steps onto the range or consider firearm ownership. Their introductory class?appropriately named the First Steps Pistol Orientation?covers essential skills such as safe gun handling, parts of the firearm, and proper shooting technique. Other classes, such as Basic Personal Protection In The Home, cover defensive shooting skills and personal safety know-how. However, there's more to Safe-House than just firearms. The training faculty also includes CPR instructors, who teach lifesaving skills to both medical professionals and the general public.

Unlike most activities, bowling rewards you for knocking things over. Guests knock things over nightly at these indoor recreation centers in the south suburbs and DeKalb. Bowling lanes at all three locations facilitate relaxed family nights with automatic scoring and bumper options for groups playing with small children. Friday and Saturday nights, the lights dim for more glamorous glow bowling. Fog machines billow mist across the ground as laser and disco lights cast colorful patterns through the air. Every night after close, Kegel Kustodian machines brush over each lane to ensure consistent conditions for the next day of playing.

Each spot also keeps famished players satisfied with sandwiches, pizzas, and appetizers served at an onsite restaurant. The Burr Oak location entertains numerous galas at a 100-guest banquet hall, and in Oak Forest, the goods times move outdoors for summertime volleyball and bean-bag tossing at The Park.

The Meadows Golf Club of Blue Island's 18-hole course winds over a 6,581 layout that showcases the inventive mind of course architect J. Porter Gibson. From the double doglegs on holes 10 and 15 to the back-to-back forced carries over water hazards golfers must face on 13 and 14, the layout enchants and challenges golfers without forcing them to read the Petrarchan sonnets a lonely flagstick wrote for a comely sand trap. Golfers can prepare for rounds at the club's on-site driving range and enhance their bag of trick sticks at the golf shop with gear from top golf brands such as Titleist, FootJoy, and Cleveland.

Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par-71 layout * Length of 6,581 yards from the farthest tees * Course rating of 71.3 from the farthest tees * Slope rating of 121 from the farthest tees * Three tee options * Scorecard
