Drivers hunch over the steering wheels of their Technicolor cars, bearing down on the accelerator as wheels squeal in delight. Around the corner, a basketball thwacks on hardwood before swishing through the hoop. All of this seems to move in sync with the digital babble of arcade machines at GameTime, where a pantheon of video games tests hand-eye coordination and helps overcome fears of checkered racing flags. Players roll skee balls, drop coins, and spin wheels to earn tickets to redeem for a selection of prizes, including kid-size acoustic guitars and stuffed replicas of television characters such as Bart Simpson and SpongeBob Squarepants.
At the adjoining Arena Sports Bar & Grill, fans cheer on their favorite team or mascot trying to escape bath time as the action plays out on 20 flat-screen televisions. Plates of pasta, pizza, and sandwiches clatter, drowning out cheers from sports games that simulate the joy of athletic achievement.
Seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at will call.
Founded in 1999, Just The Funny Theater hosts a rotating roster of improv and sketch teams, and also opens its stage to standup comedians. The theater’s comedic cast members have numerous credits from local theater productions. Just The Funny also offers classes in the improvisational arts and sketch writing, during which instructors dispense the comedic skills they’ve learned from their own training with such groups as The Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and The Groundlings.
At South Miami Physical Therapy & Pilates, founder Michele Gust and her staff of instructors help clients combat pain and strive for healthy living with a program that combines Pilates and physical therapy. Gust helps improve guests' bodies and minds with the expertise she has displayed as a physical therapist for professional basketball and tennis players, and the butlers who carry them around their mansions. Whether clients are recovering from an injury or simply getting into shape, the classes seek to strengthen core muscles, improve flexibility, and alleviate any pain lingering since Firefly was cancelled.
Inside Bikram Yoga Falls's heated practice space, students of all experience levels bend and stretch through Bikram yoga's 26 postures for a challenging yet stress-relieving workout. During the 90-minute classes, instructors lead up to 50 students through a regimented series of poses paired with two pranayama breathing exercises. The classes are designed to increase strength and flexibility while decreasing the body's tension level, clearing the mind of stressful events such as catching the family dog reading your diary. The routine is performed in a studio heated to temperatures hovering around the 100-degree mark, coaxing muscles to sink deeper into stretches and ousting the body's toxins through sweat.
Though roller skating may be symbolic of life in the '50s, the staff at Super Wheels Skating Center has incorporated the tunes, TVs, and technology of today to bring this American pastime in to the 21st century. DJs spin a choice of more than 400,000 songs through the rink’s digital sound equipment, serenading guests as they show off their moves and finally embrace their wheel transplant. In order to offer more than just skating, the staff created a super arcade filled with interactive games and sprinkled the facility with 20 high-definition TVs and five giant screens that broadcast entertainment as well as live texts from guests and overprotective mothers.
Outside of open-skate hours, the rink puts on a range of events, including private parties, beginning and pro skating lessons, and special times for skaters 11 and younger. The facility’s concession stand offers food for all ages, including futuristic Dippin’ Dots, fried appetizers, Latin pastries, and pitchers of O’Doul's.
