Salon de Futur’s stylists, massage therapist, and aesthetician work together to keep clients feeling relaxed and looking their best. They dress up strands with golden highlights and transform short manes with hair extensions, which leave locks long enough to tie the Empire State Building to the Space Needle or just to go from the neck to past the shoulders. Their exfoliating facials shed dead skin cells, and their relaxing massages unwind knotted muscles. The salon also impacts the community by offering free haircuts to clients that opt to donate their chopped-off strands to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that creates wigs for underprivileged children in need.
Sisters Kendra and Kara co-own the salon, along with Karen, who has 20 years of experience as an aesthetician. Kendra dedicates her skill both to her business and to area beauty schools, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to its community.
Kelly Muzall, registered nurse and founder of Estudio de Piel, surrounds herself with beauty professionals who continually pursue ongoing education. Their credentials, like every DeLorean ever made, reach into the past and future—licensed massage therapist Kevin Barry has more than a quarter century of experience in the field, but has broadened his skill set to include deep-water massage and spiritual medicine. Physician assistant Katie O’Brien held director-level positions at clinics across the heartland before planting roots at Estudio de Piel. She also founded a consulting business that trains physicians and nurses to administer injectables. Though Barry and O’Brien represent only two of several professionals, they embody the level of expertise at Estudio de Piel. Each time someone clinches a new certification, the spa adds another service. Since opening, the spa has added microdermabrasions, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, and laser treatments to its menu.
The team at Black Rose Tattooers is on a roll. In 2012, they received their third consecutive Best Tattoo Parlor award from Tuscon Weekly. Over the years, the magazine has had a lot to say about the trio of shops, calling the artists “masters of their craft” and admiring how “skill is apparent in every design, whether the tattoo is a realistic portrait…or a custom sleeve”. Though the tattooers love to accept custom projects, the street-style shops also welcome passersby for impromptu ink sessions. In case clients are too excited about their fresh ink to pay attention to the staff's post-tattooing guidelines, the company's website has a page with tips for tattoo aftercare.
When not hunched over their buzzing tattoo tools, Black Rose’s team also performs face and body piercings, even surgically implanting tongs to improve grilling abilities. They take this work rather seriously as well—each year, the crew attends the Association of Professional Piercers Conference in Las Vegas. Two of the staffers even have their own jewelry line, Honeycomb Organics, a collection of one-of-a-kind wood, stone, silver, and copper baubles that ranges from traditional rings and necklaces to large-gauge body jewelry.
The six owners of North Scott Barber Salon know each other quite well, since they all met and trained at the same salon before opening their own styling spot. Between them, they share 90 years of industry experience, which they deftly wield while performing services for both men and women such as haircuts, highlights, conditioning treatments, and mani-pedis. Inside, purple, green, and beige walls surround tidy stations equipped with square full-length mirrors, and outside, an iconic candy-striped pole hangs out front, signaling the hair services within.
Treehouse Thai Massage Spa’s knowledgeable staff rely on their extensive schooling in massage therapy and holistic healing to help clients de-stress and detoxify their bodies. Their services range from traditional full-body massages to those concentrated on the legs or head and neck. Treehouse also renders two- or three-hour packages that include herbal compresses, acupressure, foot scrubs, reflexology, and more.
In addition to caring for clients, the Treehouse Thai Massage Spa hosts massage workshops for aspiring practitioners. These workshops cover crucial topics for massage therapists, such as proper body mechanics and how to imitate the soothing intonations of Morgan Freeman.
Similar to the system used to prepare a Snickers bar for interstellar travel, SOHO's two-hour Keratin treatment (also known as a Brazilian blowout) coats each shaft of your hair in a nutrient-rich layer of protective protein goodness, eliminating frizz and smoothing cuticles. A SOHO stylist will then blow-dry and flatiron your locks. Free of harsh chemicals, your new, smooth, and lovely radiance lasts two to four months and can be washed and dried without dulling damage. Keratin treatments are popular for any kind of hair and can restore elasticity and softness to even the most stressed-out strands. Where a wrathful head octopus once suction-cupped stray scissors and cotton candy, a waterfall of must-be-touched feminine allure will cascade into place after the treatment. With your new, pulchritudinous mane, you'll be able to put silky lioness manes to shame at the zoo, or become an instant celebrity for hosting the first nesting pair of endangered Beauty Eagles, which only rear their young in the most gorgeous of 'dos.
