"The essence of yoga and meditation is about a very simple thing—your happiness." So says Swamiji, the founder of Yoga In Daily Life. Originally from rural Rajasthan, India, he has shared the teachings of yoga since 1972, when he moved from India to Europe. Swamiji based Yoga In Daily Life on the original teachings and traditions of yoga, but focused it to meet modern needs.
Yoga in Daily Life is designed to gradually and systematically prepare the body and mind leading from gentle stretches towards more advanced and difficult postures. The classes emphasize four aspects of yoga: relaxation, yoga postures, breathing practice, and meditation. Today, the system is taught in over 3,000 locations in more than 26 countries around the world in an effort to promote harmony for the body, mind, and soul. The Buford center has been offering classes since 1999.
"Our brain is designed to realize what we wish, without any minor errors," says Dahn Yoga founder Ilchi Lee. "If you want success, it will create success. If you want happiness or health, it will create them. Anything is possible, as long as negative thoughts and emotions don't interfere." To make this challenging, yet hopeful philosophy accessible to all, Lee combined the Eastern concept of chi energy with his own brain-management system, developing a distinctive program that unlocks inner peace and sweeps up brain clutter caused by the daily stress of always having to find Waldo. Warm-up yoga maneuvers awaken muscles before 30–40 minutes of breathing, stretching, core practice, and meditation—including a signature brain-wave vibration technique that aims to calibrate mental and physical energies. Cooldown exercises ease the body back into quotidian functionality before a 10-minute teatime invites socialization among participants while bolstering pinkie endurance.
Calendar space is a hot commodity at The Open Mind Center. That's because each month founder Charmaine Taylor and her staff fill it with an array of holistic classes, such as several types of ashtanga and hatha yoga classes, an Intro to crystals and minerals class, meditation classes, and a certification course for aspiring shamanic practitioners. Adding to the selection, Taylor and her team schedule wellness therapies such as Chakra Balancing and community-oriented special events such as potlucks and poetry open mics.

Skill and experience don't matter at Bikram Yoga Decatur. Students of all levels can attend the studio's 90-minute Bikram yoga classes and gradually develop their practice at a comfortable pace. Each class meets in a room heated to 105 degrees and consists of the same sequence of two breathing exercises, 26 standing and seated asanas, and three high-fives. The combination of heat and powerful, sustained stretches systematically engages organs and muscle groups throughout the body while increasing circulation. In addition to improving strength, flexibility, and balance over time, Bikram yoga practice also requires keen mental focus and it hones awareness of mind-body connections.
To complement students' practice, the studio hosts two additional class types. Sixty-minute classes use the exact same Bikram poses, although the instructors link them to create more dynamic, flowing sequences. For students more familiar with the style, the studio offers advanced classes that introduce 19 additional postures into the sequence. These sessions accentuate the benefits of Bikram yoga practice by placing additional emphasis on asanas that strengthen the core, arms, and upper body.
