Each year, runners gather in downtown Lawton for the Spirit of Survival, an annual, multi-race event benefiting the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma and cancer research worldwide. The gathering offers events for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, including the Hulkin' Half-Marathon, the 5K Superhero Race, the Spirit Walk, the Quick Silver Quarter Marathon, and the Superhero Kid's Marathon. In conjunction with the organization's aim at fighting cancer and overcoming obstacles, Spirit of Survival encourages runners to don superhero costumes.

Travis Garza became a fitness operative at the same time that he officially became an adult, commencing his personal-training career at age 18. At each of Oxygen Yoga & Fitness? locations, trained fitness instructors guide students through a seven-day schedule packed with yoga, boot camp, meditation, and TRX suspension training classes. The modern studios come equipped with infrared heated yoga rooms where students strengthen muscles during yoga poses as the specialized light aims to improve their skin tone and erase their cellulite. During TRX suspension training sessions, exercisers are suspended in the air by belts attached to the ceiling and use their own body weight to fight gravity. Norman native Mark Russell calls upon his four years spent as a Special Forces operator in the US Marine Corps and 14 years as a professional trainer in the motocross industry to inspire the pupils of Rise Above Fit Camp. He challenges his students to push to new limits with constantly changing workouts that can involve everything from stadium runs to CrossFit-inspired exercises.
In Pilates Fitness Center Norman’s sleek environment of pistachio-green walls and blond-wood floors, instructors lead Pilates, barre classes, and personal-training sessions tailored to experience levels as well as fitness goals.
