What was the inspiration for starting this business?
Stan and Joanne started making wine ... to carry on the family tradition of home winemaking, but they had a lot of learning to do as they went through the process. After years of experimenting at home, they tried making wine at one of the Vintner's Circle locations. They couldn't believe how easy it was to make wine and how each batch always came out tasting great. Joanne and Stan decided to open a location here in NEPA to share their experience with new and experienced winemakers here.
What?s your favorite part about your job?
We love spending time with our customers and helping them make a great tasting wine. It's fantastic to see groups of family and friends come in together and really enjoy their experience here, whether they are making wine or attending one of our classes or events. Stan and Joanne's favorite event by far is the Sangria Challenge. They love seeing how much fun the teams have in the trivia challenge and how creative the teams get in building their Sangria and designing their labels.
The professional, knowledgeable staff at Vintner’s Circle share their love of the wine lifestyle with hands-on wine classes that teach guests, family, and friends how to bottle wines, distinguish between different varietals, or pair wine with cheese. The shop’s unique, all-inclusive winemaking program takes aspiring vintners through the accessible four-part process in store over the course of eight weeks, which begins with choosing wine juices from a selection of more than 50 internationally sourced varieties. Participants eventually bring home more than two dozen bottles with their own vintage for a total cost of less than $10 per bottle. They can emblazon these bottles with custom-designed labels and colorful tops. Vintner's Circle also stocks a variety of gifts for weddings, holidays, and other special occasions, as well as wine accessories and gifts for wine lovers to enjoy year-round. Wine-education classes, corporate events, and team-building events are also on offer.

Every year, as the snow starts falling, the town of Jim Thorpe dusts off a charming sense of nostalgia and channels the holiday spirit for their Olde Time Christmas celebration. A parade at the end of November heralds the tree lighting, which in turn kicks off weekends of lights, stage plays, and Victorian touches that evoke A Christmas Carol without all of the blood-thirsty aliens Dickens was so fond of. Historic mansions combine with small-town elegance to create an ideal tableau for the festival, which hosts events that include a gingerbread house contest, historic ghost walks, and a live nativity. Kids hop on a train with Santa while others settle in for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, sending the staccato of clipping and clopping through the streets. Dulcet notes from a choir glide through the air at local churches while patrons walk to and fro amongst local businesses and a stand of handmade wreaths.
Blue Mountain Vineyards owners, Joe and Vickie, are pinot pioneers. Beginning with a 5-acre experiment in 1986, they discovered that the soil of the Lehigh Valley does a fine impression of French terrain, making it suitable for growing the grapes of cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and other European varietals. Since then, they've expanded to a 50-acre plot, where they now produce wines that have won awards from the Fingerlake International Wine Competition and Appellation America.
Panoramic views of the Blue Mountains overlook scenic terraces at the vineyards, where grapes spring from soil that soldiers roamed during the Revolutionary War. Tastings, concerts, and other events fill the winery's glass-flanked deck, spilling onto an outdoor patio surrounded by ponds as tranquil as a silent lullaby. Visitors admire the vines during tours, and they can also adopt their favorites to preserve the vines' flavorful histories.
Along the slopes of Blue Mountain in Little Gap Valley, Blue Mountain Resort treats visitors to a wealth of year-round activities for all ages, including some of the most thrilling skiing in Pennsylvania. Visitors can fasten on skis and snowboards to tackle dozens of snowy trails of any difficulty, including a 1,082 ft. vertical?the highest one in the state, in the winter or just go for a lift ride during the off season and take in the breathtaking views of the Poconos.
In warmer months, more than a dozen downhill biking trails and three disc golf courses await guests. The stunning mountain scenery also forms the perfect backdrop for frolicking in the woodsy wilderness during seasonal events such as Oktoberfest, the PA Blues Festival, or Blue's Brew Fest. Regardless of season, the Slopeside Pub and Grill can line up a burger and a cold beer for any peckish adventurer or yeti-in-disguise.
