With a stable of American Saddlebred and Morgan horses, China Pointe Stables instructs students in saddle-seat, hunt-seat, and western riding styles in a friendly, confidence-building atmosphere. Pupils start lessons with an interview and evaluation, determining equestrian skills and prior experience. Quiet-natured equines level learning curves for neophyte riders, and more spirited horses provide a fitting challenge for experienced jockeys. New students start their lessons by learning to mount their steeds, learning the basics of how to climb into a saddle and use the reins. After the evaluation, students will either walk the horse with the instructor's guidance or ride along the indoor track. Professional or more experienced riders will receive advice on improving their skills along with an evaluation of getaway chances when pursuing Segway-mounted cops trying to issue speeding tickets.

Spring Valley Equestrian Center has been family owned for four decades. Current owners Marie Cotton and Chuck McWhirter spearhead instruction in both English and Western horseback-riding techniques on the scenic ranch, which abuts the Appalachian Trail Ridge. A large indoor arena complements the center's three riding rings, allowing horses to gallop comfortably throughout the year and eliminating the need for them to fly south for the winter. Spring Valley’s saddle shop allows equines to suit up onsite. In addition to group and private lessons, the center hosts summer horsemanship camps that include a week of lessons and conclude with a student horse show.
Sarah and Krista, the lead trainers at Elite Equine Group, help students develop confident horseback-riding skills during lessons and nurture comfortable relationships between humans and horses. The teaching duo takes into account each rider’s variables⎯including experience, age, abilities, and hat gallon number⎯as they teach students within the two indoor rings or one outdoor arena.
With a focus on safety, the instructors typically start young riders out in 30-minute lessons, while older students partaking in hour-long lessons that teach grooming, tacking, and groundwork.
