At Kettlebell Explosion, fitness fanatic and HKC-certified instructor Keith Rodgers channels his Russian-style training to lead students through intense kettlebell workouts. During half-hour beginner sessions, small groups of up to 10 participants cast off calories in concert through basic and intermediate movements using only the cast-iron weight of a kettlebell. The brief, high-energy nature of each training session facilitates functional strength gain but also helps students develop core strength and the cardiovascular capacity needed to complete marathons on the ocean floor. Additionally, kettlebell-only sessions equip students with enough swinging, cleaning, and snatching experience to eventually move on to more advanced workouts. For upcoming classes, attendees can check Kettlebell Explosion's full schedule.
Southern Oaks? 18-hole golf course is designed to incorporate the tree-lined countryside with 6,495 yards of bermuda-grass fairways and greens. A large, wishbone-shaped lake occupies the south end of the course, its surface forming a glassy resting place for errant golf balls and a natural mirror for self-absorbed golf carts. More than 650 trees line the fairways, further compounding the need for accurate shots. Golfers can warm up for rounds at the onsite driving range and practice green.
From its hilltop perch, Southern Oaks' clubhouse beckons golfers for a postround dinner of savory grill cuisine, an ideal way to replenish muscles after a long day of swinging for distant greens or setting personal long-jump records in sand traps.
Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par-72 course * Length of 6,495 yards from the farthest tees * Course rating of 71.6 from the farthest tees * Slope rating of 136 from the farthest tees * Four tee options * Scorecard
Located near Table Rock State Park, Bear Valley Golf Club nestles a community and golf course at the base of South Carolina's third-highest mountain. Trout streams wind through the 18-hole course, which challenges golfers of all skill levels with bending fairways and sloping, bentgrass greens. At the clubhouse, a full sports bar and restaurant let visitors relax before heading out to the links or taking a lesson from a golf professional at the driving range. Surrounded by hundreds of miles of hiking and horseback-riding trails, Bear Valley embeds its golf course within a landscape of towering trees and sweeping foothills, forcing golfers to distinguish between their own balls and rolling acorns.
Studio SI's enormous team of instructors fills every week with a range of group fitness classes, providing workouts for those of all fitness levels. Zumba, for example, offers a perfect starting point for beginners, combining aerobic exercises with dance choreography to up-beat songs. At the other end of the spectrum, Insanity challenges participants with high-impact plyometric movies, although modifications are available. The studio's instructors all hold professional testimonies to their skills, be it in the form a Zumba license or a certification from the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America.
Owner Shannon Hudson developed the 30-minute circuit to be fast and challenging with a pinch of hateful fun so participants stay engaged while getting ripped. The workout program includes a certified trainer who will provide guidance through stages such as jump rope, speed bag, heavy bag, and more. By combining the best functional, interval, cardiovascular, and circuit training regimens into one beast of a workout, the 9Round training program places a great deal of emphasis on results, just like the retired Keebler elves that now live inside Scantron machines.
