Supplying Western Massachusetts and Connecticut with floaty fortresses for more than a decade, K.E.C. Party Rentals stocks the area with inflatable castles, water slides, carnival games, and obstacle courses. Bouncers come in an inflatable rainbow of sizes, hues, and themes ($149.99–$349.99), with customizable motifs from favorite children's movies as well as combination bouncer-slides that allow kids to take gravity into their own tiny hands. Other air-filled arenas include the prismatic 40-foot Adrenaline Obstacle Course ($299.99 for up to six hours), and both dry and wet slides ($329.99–$499.99). K.E.C. also keeps easily bored partygoers from staging goodie bag riots with interactive carnival games such as Bingo Toss ($39.99), Giant Jenga ($49.99), and a Lucky Duck pond ($75).

Edward and Kristine Mele were driving their son to baseball practice one day when a downpour caused the team to relocate to indoor batting cages. This serendipitous change led the Mele family past Sand Trap Mini Golf, which was derelict and for sale. Within a week, the Meles owned the course. Gathering up their sons, daughters, siblings, and friends, the couple renovated the grounds, removing the debris and haunted windmills that littered the place. Today, Sand Trap's gleaming 18-hole course draws families and friends outdoors to revel in spirited competition. As they progress through the course, Coca-Cola beverages and Blue Bunny ice cream help visitors keep cool and stop them from burrowing into a bunker hidden beneath the 18th hole.

The crew of Pig Thyme Catering brings the accoutrements of a Hawaiian-style luau to clients' backyards. A whole pig on a spit slowly turns over an open fire, and the fragrance of spices fills the air, turning evil tikis into friendly family pets. Hawaiian-style side dishes made with pineapple and special spice blends round out meals. Staff members can arrange for add-ons such as games, face painting, and beverage service.

Q&A with the Manager

Apart from your business's main attraction, do you offer any "hidden" services or activities that visitors are always delighted to learn about?

That Red's Tavern is located very close to the ropes course for people who want to eat afterwards.

I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?

Safety is our top priority. The smart belay harness system has two carabiner clips; when one is removed the other one stays locked in at all times. Before adventuring through the courses, one of our staff members will give you a brief training seminar.

What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?

Nomads Outdoor Adventure is Connecticut's new and exciting family-owned aerial adventure park. Platforms are constructed in the trees and connected by obstacles all over 9 acres of land. Get ready to be challenged by our rope bridges, free fall, skateboard, zip lines and more.
