Q&A with Maria Cutti LE, CPE, Permanent Hair Removal Expert

What’s your favorite part about your job?
I enjoy the clients' reaction when they realize, "Yes this works." When my clients reach the finish line, their joy is my reward.

What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
I had a tiny, lively elderly lady ask me to get rid of her hair because she felt more like a grandpa instead of a grandma. When she was done, she got off of the table and jumped up and down and said, "I am no more Grandpa; I am Grandma again!" She was so happy.

What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
I can truly relate to their hair issues and how it affects their self-esteem. I put my clients at ease immediately by showing them how much I understand their feelings. I explain the procedure in detail and let them know why electrolysis works. All questions are answered to the best of my ability before I begin treatments.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
In this day and age, everyone wants a quick fix for their problems. The most effective fix is not always the quickest. Clients need to educate themselves before using alternative hair-removal methods so they can understand why their hairs are increasing and not decreasing. This electrolysis, unlike other kinds, truly works on all skin colors and hair types and textures. The best investment is the one you make on yourself.

The advantage of electrolysis is its versatility—its low-level electric currents can remove any color of hair from skin of any tone. This is why, at Brick and Monmouth Electrolysis, Lorraine Cupolo-Fetherman, LE, CPE, and her team of fellow licensed professional electrologists specialize in this established method of hair removal. During electrolysis sessions, they adhere to the highest standards of sterilization and perform treatments with a gentle method. Additionally, the team members are mindful of patient comfort before, during, and after treatments. For example, staffers schedule complimentary consultations and never hesitate to apply topical anesthesia or dress up as a teddy bear if needed.

At Skin Solutions Staten Island, the main focus is, of course, skin, and a team of aestheticians works to clear it of the many epidermal issues that can plague it. Some techniques are more advanced, including an extensive array of laser services that treat anything from age spots and acne to spider veins and loss of elasticity. There are cellulite treatments, too, as well as Botox injections and permanent-makeup applications.

More traditional therapies include several types of facials, such as glycolic peels and deep-pore cleansing. Body treatments nourish the skin with seaweed wraps or honey-almond scrubs, and massage therapy relaxes muscles with Swedish, hot-stone, or reflexology sessions.

At the helm of Wake Up…With MakeUp! is Barbara Strafella, a 20-year beauty-industry veteran who knows how to renew visages with treatments tailored to each individual’s skin ailments. After sleuthing around skin for impurities, the specialist begins a deep cleansing to rid pores of dirt, oil, and whac-a-moles. While skin gorges on the epidermal desserts that arrive inside the custom-formulated mask, the aesthetician’s lithe fingers dance a relaxation-inducing number across T-zones and necks. To top off the visage refurbishment, under-eyes don a potent vitamin C mask for 10 minutes in order to brighten the sensitive skin surrounding peepers and ward off optical scurvy.
