  • Vail International Dance Festival
Now in its 23rd year, the Vail International Dance Festival electrifies internationally sourced audiences with two weeks of dance-powered stage shows in a pastoral mountain setting. Debuting at the festival in 2005, the Trey McIntyre Project sweeps dancers across the stage, wowing crowds with athletic agility, exciting modern music, and the performers' ability to soar from the stage to the concession stand in a single graceful bound. At the open-air Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, sun-drenched seats on the grassy hillside bestow audiences with views of the Rocky Mountains' natural splendor and trees' laughably artificial hairpieces. Seating is first come, first served on the lawn, and spectators are welcome to bring picnic items, including sealed nonalcoholic beverages. Only legless chairs are permitted.

As memory cards replaced film reels, many photographers—both professional and amateur—felt befuddled by the new technology. That's where Digital Photo Academy stepped in. Since 2007, the business has facilitated workshops that explore all aspects of digital imagery, from operating cameras and uploading digital files to editing images and airbrushing realistic mustaches. Seasoned professionals lead the courses, helping understudies hone their use of light, framing, and timing. Students furnish their own cameras, and can tote along any ancillary equipment such as tripods, laptops, and flashes that relate to the course at hand.

  • Live Nation
More than half a century ago, three partners raised a vibrant, multicolored tent on an underdeveloped industrial site and established the Westbury Music Fair. It followed its first production, The King and I, with a decade of top-name talent and Broadway musicals. Then, recognizing its place on the theater scene was permanent, it planted its roots as a fully enclosed theater-in-the-round. Expanding its repertoire to match its new digs, the theater showcased performers such as The Who, Bruce Springsteen, and Julie Andrews. Today, past a lounge blazing in purple and red lights, guests find that same circular stage hosting equally great musical acts, musical theater, and competitive musical chairs.

  • Boulder Spirals
The owner and senior instructor of Boulder Spirals, Sasha Viers earned a BFA in drama at New York University under the tutelage of Stella Adler. After graduating, she focused her love of movement into dance and mastered modern dance, barre technique, and lyrical jazz, among other techniques and styles. The physically demanding disciplines left her with persistent injuries that forced her to acknowledge that the pursuit of a career as a professional dancer would be too challenging. In the wake of this realization, she explored yoga and Pilates, but it was at her husband's urging that she tried pole dancing. Sasha fell in love with the blend of sensuality and strength that the art required, and she pursued that passion relentlessly, resulting in the inception of Boulder Spirals. At her studio, she has assembled a team of talented dancers and instructors who have mastered their respective modality, be it burlesque, hip-hop, or belly dancing. The troupe has designed their courses to foster self-confidence in women of all skill and fitness levels. Their class list boasts dance-fitness classes varied enough to help students achieve almost any physical desire short of actually becoming a pole.

  • The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show
The Dinner Detective's renowned troupe of talented actors engages audiences with an evening of laughs, intrigue, and suspense as mock murder accompanies a four-course meal where everyone in attendance is a suspect. A dressed-down cast of professional Hollywood- and Chicago-trained sleuths circulates through the crowd, sniffing out phony alibis and asking the hard questions to solve the mystery of each whodunit. Before the night is over, the fictional criminal is cuffed and the most accurately detecting diner takes home a prize package. The Dinner Detective leases out its gumshoes to clean up crime during private events such as fundraisers, family reunions, or embezzlement hearings. The thespians have sharpened their entertaining chops by performing for such Fortune 500 companies as Universal Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering.

  • University of Colorado Football
With its flagship campus in Boulder stationed a short trip from some of the nation's finest alpine slopes, it should come as no surprise that the University of Colorado Buffaloes have dominated the rest of the country in one sport: skiing. With 17 NCAA Skiing titles to their name, the Buffs are among nation's premier programs, and also among the premier candidates to receive a phone call from the Yeti president. The topography and altitude has also proven beneficial to distance runners, as the Buffs have won three men's and two women's cross country titles. Though the rugged outdoors may be the school's forte, its football squad and men's and women's basketball teams compete among the nation's top collegiate programs in the elite Pac-12 conference.
