On a 10-acre space, XMotoball stokes twin adrenaline rushes with two recreational fields, a speedball field, a 2011 PSP Bunker set, and a motocross track. Duos and quartets deploy to the spacious, uniquely outfitted fields, armed to the teeth with a paintball marker, mask, jacket, and 200 paintballs apiece, enough to faithfully re-create Death Star blueprints upon opponents’ chests. Unlimited air refills allow for continued play and the carbonation of delicious sodas during between-game downtime. Trained referees watch each game, ensuring that all goings-on are safe, fun, and by the rules. Players who find themselves running empty can purchase additional paintballs at $38.50 for 2,000 rounds.

At Ricky's Paintball, the desert field's design incorporates both constructed and natural obstacles, such as wooden structures and shade-bearing trees, where combatants try to blend in before opening fire on opponents. Before play begins, referees acquaint beginners with the basics, then clarify safety rules so players of all experience levels feel comfortable stepping onto the field. Teams commence shooting at one another in a hailstorm of color, picking out their opponents from their teammates as they target from behind obstacles and duck around corners incognito. Once the shots have ceased, teammates engage with one another in a picnic area fortified with cold refreshments and materials for building a Trojan horse before the next game. Outside the playing field, Ricky's Paintball also encompasses a pro shop, and on select occasions, hosts Airsoft play to gunmen who have their own gear and use only biodegradable ammo.

The sun beats down on the eerily deserted village?the square, pastel colored houses seeming almost sinister in the still air. But the air isn't still for long. With a shout, army relief-clad, gun-wielding teams rush into the open, pegging one another with bright splatters of paint. And this is only one of Combat Action Paintball's open-air playing fields. The other is a long, thin passageway littered with abandoned police cars and bunkers, which players must navigate together in a capture-the-flag-type scenario. Luckily, they'll do it all while safely clad in provided gear, including a mask, helmet, and bullet-proof artist's smock.
