Rusty's Rhythm Club's founder, the hyperqualified Rusty Frank, took to dancing at the tender age of 6, and has been light-tripping professionally since her college days. Since then, she has been inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame and has performed in locations from the Hollywood Bowl to Disneyland and other worldwide locales. Rusty is joined in instruction by her effusive teachers, Ted Stanley and Ron Campbell, who bear multitudinous dancing awards as well as an actual portal to 1920s-1940s America.

They impart the dancing skills of the 1940s at both Rusty's Rhythm Club, a weekly swing dance emporium, and Lindy by the Sea beginning-class series, a dance school for all experience levels. Rusty's Rhythm Club sharpens soles with an all-ages dance fest accompanied by the tunes and Prohibition-era conversational topics of live bands in the air-conditioned Westchester Elks Lodge in Playa del Rey.

For Angelina D?Arcy, art serves as an outlet for both relaxation and communication. Her own work combines the abstractions in the world around her with the simple lines of flowers, calling to mind masters ranging from van Gogh to Georgia O?Keefe. When she?s not creating and exhibiting her own artwork, Angelina shares her passion with amateur artists through painting workshops. During classes, she teaches sketching, painting, and color-mixing techniques, along with art theory. She also unlocks deeper techniques during abstract art and self-portrait classes, which force students to take a closer look at themselves and then turn their features into expressive squiggles. Angelina embraces art away from the studio, too; in her free time, she works as a volunteer committee member of the local Foundation of Local Arts (FOLA) and helps people heal through a program with Free Arts for Abused Children.

Since sprouting in South Bay in 2004, Wondertree Kids has been an interactive space for youngsters to learn about and discover the fascinating world around them. Designed by early childhood experts, the facility's programs use playtime as a vehicle to stimulate learning and development like in their popular Music & Sign Language class. Age-appropriate exercises are woven into the fabric of every activity, including messy art classes, school-preparation courses, and music programs, where kids can safely practice their moves instead of breakdancing in the subway.

Guided by a mission of embracing every student's quest for personal growth, the team at YogaWorks offers programs for all ages and walks of life. Harnessing a minimum of 500 hours of Yoga Alliance training, expert instructors build lean muscles with traditional Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Vinyasa flow classes enhanced by inspiring music, ambient candlelight, meditation, and props. Their fitness classes further the body-shaping results of yoga, strengthening core muscles with Pilates, increasing endurance and lean muscles with TRX classes, and building stamina with resistance-based SculptWorks.

Instructors also host exotic yoga retreats, which marry the excitement of travel to far-away locales with the benefits of yoga to bestow students with the confident grace required to approach a foreign yoga mat without startling it. Those in search of further training can access online videos by subscribing to myyogaworks.com, which offers a free, 14-day trial for new users. Students can search for videos by workout duration, skill level, and the targeted area of the body.

Huw Lloyd Davies and Stu White started HDX Fit as a place where they can help others improve their own health and fitness. The center's training principles are built upon holistic health awareness, the fundamentals of nutrition, and metabolic conditioning. Alongside an excellent supporting staff, the team curates a curriculum of group training classes, personal-training sessions, nutrition consultations, and holistic life coaching.

HDX Fit also offers an online training program, a portal full of videos and written workouts for people who can’t make it to classes because their motorized unicycles are out of gas. The online program includes a weekly telephone chat with one of the gym’s trainers, who speaks to the philosophy of the center's inspirational founder.
