The clops of stamping hooves echo across the 147 acres of Talbot Run Equestrian Center, LLC, as horseback riders take instruction from experienced coaches and explore the extensive trail system. During lessons, novices and experts alike learn proper technique in the disciplines of English riding, jumping, and dressage, helping stave off accidents that can arise from unsafe practices such as hanging ten on the horse’s nose. The stable’s camps offer riders a more immersive experience, dividing campers’ time among riding lessons, horsemanship tutorials, and arts and crafts.
Designed by founder and renaissance woman Lynne Brick and her accomplished husband, Victor, Brick Bodies and Lynne Brick's health clubs share a fitness cornucopia of group classes, personal-training sessions, and women’s health tips. They stock their workout facilities with premium cardio and strength-training equipment, as well as offer amenities that may include pools, childcare services, and volcano-free saunas. Each of the seven locations sports its own personality, including the Owings Mills and Belvedere facilities, which operate as all-female communities.
The Brick's also employ a team of certified instructors, who lead more than 30 types of group fitness classes, allowing students of all skill levels access to sessions that range from low-impact workouts, such as BodyVive, to more intense courses, such as the kickboxing-inspired BodyCombat classes.
Reisterstown Sportsplex seamlessly melds competitive fire and ice with a regulation NHL skating rink and a similarly spacious indoor field for lacrosse and soccer. Since opening in 2008, the facility has expanded to host both serious and recreational events, from birthday parties and broomball matches to figure-skating lessons and hockey leagues for all ages. The center frequently hosts open public-skating hours, giving fledgling figure skaters the chance to prepare for real-world, high-pressure job interviews at the local RollerBurger.
At Morning Breeze Yoga Studio, certified yoga instructor Jennifer Lerche leads students of all skill levels through body-bending yoga sessions as well as torso-tightening balance-ball and core-bodywork classes. Students delve into deep breathing, proper alignment, and a wide range of poses during mixed yoga classes. Sessions build flexibility and strengthen legs, backs, and shoulders, readying students for lucrative careers as concert-piano jugglers. In balance-ball and core-bodywork classes, held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, pupils tone their midsections using a variety of props including balls, hand weights, resistance bands, and fake mustaches. The studio supplies all the necessary equipment. In addition to providing counsel on the yoga floor, Morning Breeze's sagacious instructor also offers advice on healthy eating and well-being with an eye toward improving participants' sense of balance in their day-to-day lives.
