SVS Vision Center’s founders opened their first shop in Sterling Heights, Michigan, in 1974 to help the community clear up its vision. But even these optical gurus never foresaw their humble business expanding to more than 60 locations sprawled across 8 states. Today, each shop continues the tradition of ensuring ocular health and crystalline sight, beginning with exams from seasoned optometrists. Afterward, patients head to the optical dispensary, where they try on frames by Coach, Tiffany, Nike, Versace, or Ray-Ban. The staff then fits the stylish selection with polarized and scratch-protected prescription lenses to help guests read books clearly or see a charging moose from a distance. Most of SVS Vision Center’s frames can also hold sunglass lenses as well, eliminating squinting during summer months and tropical vacations.

Virginia Eye Consultants has been championing clear vision since 1963 and today tweaks imperfect peepers with the help of high-tech tools and a skilled staff. To determine candidacy for the Lasik procedure, each prospective patient undergoes a consultation, which includes initial measurements, a video about the procedure, and a meeting with one of the practice's seven doctors. In the Lasik procedure, a doctor painlessly creates a small flap in the cornea with the WaveLight FS200 laser, then reshapes the cornea using cool ultraviolet light. When all vision problems have been corrected, the flap is put back into place and quickly heals on its own, much like a lizard's tail or a movie star's ego. The entire procedure takes about 15 minutes, and vision should notably improve within two hours. Some patients experience discomfort for the first day but it typically is mild. Staffed by a team of nine eye doctors and surgeons, Tidewater Eye Center has racked up recognition in three categories from HamptonRoads.com's Best of Hampton Roads, including Best Health Care Provider and Best Place for Laser Vision Correction. Patients can receive a variety of optometry services at each of the clinic’s three locations, including basic eye exams; treatments for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration; and even aesthetic procedures, including eyelid surgery. Yet, the center’s most popular treatment is blade-free LASIK eye surgery, which eliminates the need for lenses and soda-bottle monocles in as little as 15 minutes.

What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
One customer said the following: "My daughter is scared to death of doctors. When we went to see Dr. Townsend and the Magic Doctor came out, I was thrilled. He did magic tricks with her for a while to get her comfortable. He was real patience and sweet with her. We left there with a great smile on our faces asking when are we going back. His staff is always real friendly. I would recommend him to all my friends." Click to read more testimonials.

Dr. Ron Frenkel began his studies at Washington University in St. Louis before returning to his native Connecticut to obtain an MD, and eventually moving to Virginia to found AAPECS Eye Care with the desire for pursuing the latest technologies in vision restoration. Dr. Frenkel draws from a strong family tradition of eye care, filling the shoes of his father, also an ophthalmologist, but shunning traditional treatments of glasses, contacts, and intense squinting by catapulting ocular health into the future through a range of laser-based and glasses-free vision-correction treatments. Customized iLasik procedures safely and swiftly reshape corneas based on computerized corneal maps, while cataract surgeries and glaucoma treatment regimens can potentially help whisk away cloudy visions bringing about the gift of sight.
