Since 1987, Bellaire Farms owners Kris and Kara Martalock have imparted equine-riding experience to pupils of all skill levels amid well-kempt stables filled with american saddlebred horses. During each 45-minute lesson, gentle steeds wordlessly encourage riders and instructors offer tips, tricks, and sugar cubes as students amass rein-handling skills such as balance and coordination. Guests can trot and gallop outdoors on carpets of soft dirt and grass or exercise an indoor horse-whispering voice from within the facility’s heated arena during inclement weather. The conscientious instructors take time to match pupils with an appropriate hoofed partner whether riders are complete novices or American frontiersmen looking to correct a century’s worth of bad habits; guests are also welcome to bring their own horses to ride during lessons.
Open 24 hours a day, K9 Kleen is a self-service dog wash where owners can soap up their four-legged friends without the hassle of hair-clogged bathtubs or dining-room kiddie-pool spills. Outfitted with waist-high and easy-to-use tubs, K9 Kleen provides the washing apparatus and cleaning products necessary to keep canines sparkling like brand-new BMWs. Start off the pooch ablution with a cascade of warm water, and then add shampoo to combat steadfast dirt clods and unidentifiable backyard smells. Conditioner smoothes fur and leaves dogs feeling like a warm silk handkerchief that’s prone to licking. The flea-and-tick treatment at K9 Kleen eradicates pint-size parasites and reduces guard-dog distractions. All wash tubs are disinfected and cleaned between each use.
The team at Rhoades Fur Feather and Fin immortalizes prized catches with professional taxidermy services for a variety of animals. The specialists provide shoulder mounts for critters such as deer, elk, coyotes, foxes, and beavers, as well as life-size mounting upon request. Animal skulls from deer, bears, and elk shine after thorough beetle cleaning and whitening, and then proudly grin as they hang from wall mounts. Rhoades also prepares fish that range in size from 13 to 64 inches, and birds such as ducks, quails, and turkeys.
At Camp Bow Wow, certified doggy counselors supply love, attention, and 24-hour monitoring in 6,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor play areas. Throughout the day, canine campers splash in pools, climb over play equipment, and exchange sniffs, barks, and phone numbers with other furry friends. Camp counselors certified in dog behavior analyze the personality of each guest before placing dogs into one of four playgroups. Meanwhile, live webcams allow owners to check in on pups either online, or via iPhone or Android phones with the Camp Bow Wow mobile app. After a full day of play, campers receive a bath and then retreat to personal cabins complete with a sleeping cot, fleece blanket, campfire treat, and alarm clock that plays the sound of an approaching mailman.
