When the snow starts to fall over Massachusetts, Otis Ridge opens its slopes to skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels?from seasoned athletes to individuals coming to the resort for the very first time. The latter will likely start in the rental shop, and then enroll in a group or private lesson, available for all ages. From there, skiers can take to the mountainside. Three levels of trails wind through the woods: three beginner trails, four intermediate trails, and three single black diamond runs.?
Once visitors have slid back to the base of the mountain, they can stop by the Grouse House. This casual lodge serves up food and drinks, and provides guests a place to unwind after long days spent ski-carving their names in the snow.
The Blandford Ski Area has remained a family mountain for 75 years through its commitment to education and gentle terrain. Crisscrossed with beginner and intermediate trails, the basin serves as a fertile development ground for burgeoning skiers and boarders, and a venue for après-ski live music. Children as young as age 3 practice their snowplow in the Ski with Me program, and sportfolk with energy to burn hit the terrain park or stay after sundown for night runs lit by floodlights. When natural snow runs short, machines kick into gear to slick slopes in fresh powder or the corn oil favored by the Blandford alpine racing team.
Winding Trails works to preserve natural woodlands and waterways around the Farmington area, hosting recreational activities that foster a love of the outdoors. In addition to renting out ski equipment to visitors eager to ski over scenic forest trails, the group runs outdoor adventure programs, day camps for ages 3-13, and swim lessons.
Scissors smith Terrell “Big T” Collins of The Cutting Edge Hair Design draws upon experience, a steady hand, and a keen eye to treat men to trim and polished cuts and skin-softening close shaves. Gentlemen can slide into a chair, where Terrell masterfully snips unkempt locks and transforms drab ‘dos according to client preferences. Like Rapunzel's publicity agent, perfectly sculpted crew cuts, fades, mohawks, or carefully ruffled coifs will draw attention to powerful hair as newly sharp gents strut from the shop. After trimming skyward strands, Big T can take to stubbly visages with a straightedge razor and hot lather, masterfully shooing away beards and mustaches and leaving skin sleek.
