Since 1995, Little Feet Childcare’s certified teachers have been fostering new generations of inquisitive children in their daily childcare sessions. Childcare groups are separated by age, with infants and toddlers placed in closely monitored classes that follow the Ohio Department of Education’s official infant and toddler guidelines. Preschoolers aged 3–5, meanwhile, have their own curriculum specifically designed to prepare them for the academic rigors of kindergarten, and an after-school program for kids aged 6–12 provides time for both homework and socializing.
When Joan Barnes founded Gymboree Play & Music in 1976, she envisioned a facility where parents and children could play together in a safe and age-appropriate environment. In the following decades, Gymboree Play & Music spread to more than 30 countries across the globe, helping youngsters from infants to 5 years old develop cognitive, physical, and social skills. The company's instructors lead classes such as Play & Learn, its flagship course, in which parents and kids move through a seven-level program filled with storytelling, play activities, and debates on the merits of sandwich crust. Talented staffers also prep youngsters for school and foster development in areas such as music, art, and sports. Throughout all classes, they make use of custom play equipment designed by acclaimed playground designer and seesaw-tamer Jay Beck.
When instructors lead classes for toddlers and preschool children at Tots University, the colorful 10,000-square-foot space comes to life. Throughout the day, these energetic teachers keep students busy singing songs, working on craft projects, or using macaroni to solve high-level calculus problems. For fun, kids can don costumes and perform in the drama program or hone their coordination and motor skills in gymnastics classes.
Learning Advantage Education Center and Preschool's licensed, certified teachers impart valuable skills to children in an entertaining, structured atmosphere. Summer dance camps combine age-appropriate movement instruction with foot-tapping music, fun props, and entertaining themes such as Under the Sea, At the Beach, and Standing Near a Sink. Dancers age 5–8 can bounce around at the Shake Your Groove Thing camp ($40, plus a $5 supply fee), and those age 3–4 can groove to music during the three-day Shake, Rattle and Roll camp ($39, plus a $5 supply fee) or the Lets Twist camp ($40, plus a $5 supply fee).
The movement maestros at Sharon Rae Dance School—named the best dance studio in Beacon four years in a row by Ohio.com—teach the fancy footwork of tap, ballet, and jazz to tots and youthful twirlers. In all the studios, including a colorful room designed for preschoolers, a layer of cushioning supports the shiny hardwood floors, warding off injuries as whippersnappers jive in musical-theater lessons and tumble with pompoms. All kids' classes are monitored through closed-circuit television, which keeps parents in the loop as they weld together first-place trophies in the waiting room. Students as young as 2 can build fine and gross motor skills in toddler sessions, and adults can leave their own cubicle-themed play sets to join fun Zumba workouts that combine aerobics and Latin dance moves.
