With more than eight years of experience splattered on its palette, Creative Spirits continues to teach people of all ages how to tap into their creative energies and create artwork through a variety of media. Even without previous experience, pupils will employ five basic elements of shape. The result is an enjoyment of process of creating without feeling lost or confused and can improve self-confidence while remaining as focused as a cat that’s ready to pounce on a laser-pointer dot.
Also at Creative Spirits' spacious studio, friendly instructors lead groups in painting, glass fusing, and using a pottery wheel during casual parties. These laid-back sessions offer an evening of fun as patrons sip on beverages and learn how to create each session’s themed art piece. Past events have included students swirling brush strokes into colorful peacocks, potters shaping clay bowls on a pottery wheel, and artists fusing pieces of glass together to create a glass-fused serving tray. The center also offers private and kids' parties, as well as team-building events.
An active Denver photographer since 1985, Bart Levy imparts hard-won wisdom to aspiring photographers in upbeat, three- or four-hour workshops. In these workshops, the seasoned shutterbug demystifies DSLR cameras, teaching pupils how to harness ISO speeds, manual settings, and flash settings to produce crisp, memorable images of lens caps. Students also learn how to compose visually striking snapshots and Levy will also demonstrate the differences in digital file formats, so acolytes can upload and share pictures without setting their web browsers on fire.

In APEX Movement’s 11,000-square-foot gym, parkour classes build a fitness foundation for students aspiring to these advanced tricks. APEX’s founder, Ryan Ford, mastered these moves—as well as basics such as quadrupedal movements, basic gymnastics, and freerunning tricks—through trial and error. Now that parkour has become a more established sport, he teaches newbies more efficiently than he taught himself, aided by a team of instructors. All have completed a 120-hour training program, and are well-versed in subjects such as “Demon Drills,” an online series focused on complex parkour stunts rather than on donning a horn-equipped headband.
The team complements their parkour training with a variety of other classes in gymnastics, freerunning, and daily changing CrossFit workouts. The gym also hosts solo workouts, where visitors can conquer Ninja Warrior obstacles such as the salmon ladder and the unstable bridge or bounce on trampolines and other gymnastics equipment. They can also wield strength-training tools such as kettlebells, dumbbells, and bells that have hands and try to push pack.
