Pretty in Pink takes its name literally. The light-pink walls of the salon encase all manner of prettifying services tailored to girls of all ages. Although gals can come in for a solo mani-pedi, haircut, or a mother-daughter spa day, parties are the house specialty. The glittery soirees center on different themes, from fashion parties with T-shirt crafts and runway walks to pop-star parties with karaoke, paparazzi photo shoots, and Grammy Award–throwing competitions.
Pretty in Pink doesn't just make girls feel like princesses on the outside—onsite classes boost self-confidence with lessons in ballet, hip-hop dance, hairstyling, and fashion design. Kids can stay active with Zumba and yoga classes or learn valuable life skills during tween classes that explore issue such as self-esteem, social etiquette, and career aspirations.
Set in the same Englewood location for more than 30 years, The Hair Place prides itself on having cut the hair of multiple generations of their clients and on having become a part of the community. The owners believe their laid-back, friendly vibe and the expertise of their licensed stylists inform the salon's longevity. Not only do they boast these essentials, but the staff even speaks several different languages to communicate with a wide range of customers: English, Spanish, French, and HTML5.
They specialize in on-trend haircuts and hair-replacement services, such as bonding, hair extensions, and attachments. The Hair Place's stylists are as comfortable performing a Brazilian straightening treatment as they are streaking sun-kissed highlights into hair. They welcome patrons to sink into cushy leather chairs as they wait for their turn in the styling area of light-filled space.
Beau Monde Salon and Spa owner Liz Pierro is committed to pursuing the most modern hair and aesthetics treatments, which has led to the curation of a service menu that seems to include almost everything. Stylists begin each service with a shampoo and scalp massage, and can also take clients into private rooms for fittings of ready-to-wear wigs and sheitels. In spa rooms that are equally private because they have doors, therapists perform Beau Monde's signature deluxe massages, which combine two modalities into a double-length session, as well as custom body wraps with mud and pure marine extracts. The rest of the menu includes everything from manicures to ultrasonic cavitation, all of which is performed in a beautiful, like-home space furnished with hardwood floors, sheer curtains, and showers lined with spa tile.
Le Chateau Allure Salon moved to a brand new space in August 2013, and it shows. Chandeliers make wood floors gleam, and the energetic stylists bustle around their clients in a spacious room where big framed mirrors line the walls. In those mirrors, men, women, and shampoo bottles watch as shears and color create elegant new looks. Some of the staff have even more specialized skills—they can also create sprightly henna patterns for holidays such as Eid, for instance.
Christopher, "The Man Behind the Chair" and the artistic director of Salon Salon, calls on his three decades of professional experience to lead his staff, encouraging hairdressers to approach hairdressing as an art form. The salon?s team pursues this goal, aided by the training tucked into their tool belts beside shears, clippers, and curling irons.
The term "wedding hair" may conjure images of updos, but that's not all it can mean. Under the care of the Up Do's and Eye Do's team, it can be whatever you want, from half-up, half-down styles to a chic blowout or ringlets for a flower girl. Audrey, the team's lead hair stylist, crafts a diverse array of just such wedding-appropriate hairdos. While she tends to locks, her business partner Cindy—a makeup artist and licensed medical aesthetician—subtly enhances the wedding party's features with products from MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Smashbox.
While the duo's main focus is on weddings, they also style clients for other special occasions and introduce kids to the joys of the spa experience. At their children's birthday parties, little ones get their hair and makeup done and even get to wear clip-in hair extensions, a more practical and temporary hair-extending alternative to wearing hats full of Miracle-Gro.
