Before moving to Florida to open Spa 98, Gabriela Voiculescu trained in Bucharest, Paris, and New York, and cut her cosmetology teeth as the owner and therapist of three highly rated med spas in Georgia. The savvy skin therapist holds licenses in three states—New York, Georgia, and Florida—and appeared on Good Morning America as a beauty consultant. Her latest pampering project, Spa 98, offers results-oriented skincare treatments that enhance exteriors with Gabriela’s own G Formula line of cleansers, moisturizers, exfoliators, and Father Time repellents. Hair-removal services include LHE hair reduction as well as full-body waxing with a French formula specially designed for sensitive skin.
For years, stylist Rachel Adams fielded requests for quick appointments by clients who had “somewhere to be.” Dismayed by this in-and-out approach to pampering, she decided her own salon should be designed as a tranquil space that clients would think of as a destination rather than a stop along the way. Today, at Somewhere To Be Salon, Rachel and her staff help clients to soak up some much-needed “me” time with mani-pedis, haircut and color services, and 30-minute facials performed under the light of a small crystal chandelier. And because staffers know how hard it can be to pencil in quality time with friends, they offer a special Girls Night Out package for ladies to catch up and make prank phone calls while enjoying makeup, nail, and hairstyling services.
Some children may innocently point out a person’s imperfections, but as a kid, Lisa Sturt knew how to work on them. As she grew older, she received training in New Jersey, New York, Paris, Chicago, and LA. Now, she brings her talents to Florida in her own salon.
At Brava Hair Studio and Day Spa, Lisa helms a staff of beauty professionals who remove dead skin cells with brown sugar or sea salt. They also swipe away unwanted hair using Lycon Gold wax, which is designed for all skin types. Her hairstylists follow a five-step approach to salon services. It starts with getting to know the client, then suggesting styles based on texture and shape of the hair, educating the client on how to keep hair strong and healthy, and finally, teaching the client step-by-step techniques to create the same hairstyle at home or change it after a spy on the run has adopted the client’s previous haircut.
The specialists at Nail & Hair Studio domesticate wild nails and manes. They detach split ends on heads and trim unwanted length on fingernails. Further mani-pedi pampering includes hand massages, French tips, and taking the time to play “this little piggy” with patron’s feet.
The SlenderSmiths staff works to unwind clients’ minds as their bodies do the opposite. Nondehydrating body wraps, ranging from premium mineral wraps to electrotherapy, help boost weight-loss efforts with immediate slimming results, as the wraps attack cellulite. Along with body wraps, the staff performs nonsurgical face-lifts more effective than Pee-wee's scotch-tape face regimen. Other spa services include massages, facials, nailcare, and waxing.
"A good consultation goes a long way." So says Heidi Taylor, who honed her craft in New Orleans before opening Salon Allure here in Pensacola. The motto means that Heidi establishes good communication with her clients immediately, so that each salon service fulfills their personal vision of themselves and matches their unique personality. Taylor has found her mantra to be so effective that she has spread it to her team of five beauty techs, which includes an airbrush-tanning artist and trained massage therapist. Each of her hairstylists brandishes Goldwell hair color—a personal favorite of Taylor—as well as the antioxidant-rich Moroccanoil haircare line as they beautify 'dos with cuts, colors, and highlights. The salon's resident massage therapist personalizes treatments by using specific modalities, such as trigger point and hot stone, to ease out body aches and pains. Alongside a spectrum of salon and spa services, the contemporary beauty studio is outfitted with a petite boutique area that is lined with trendy jewelry, Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, and hand-painted portraits of Rapunzel wearing an impatient smirk.
