Following a strict Leave No Trace philosophy, Backcountry Adventure Guides instills environmental stewardship in each of its participants as they venture on fitness-filled nature jaunts. Whether climbing, skiing, or snowshoeing, the trio of guides—all of whom boast extensive outdoor sports backgrounds—uses each trek as an opportunity to stress the importance of preserving our natural surroundings and refusing to shave Bigfoot no matter how much money he offers.
Trotting across acres of lush greenery, the horses at Lake Tapps Equiventures do more than carry young equestrians across paddocks–they help kids achieve their riding dreams. Students can learn all aspects of English and Western riding or jumping as instructors track their riding progress in binders that list concrete goals for the future and provide a leger of past accomplishments. Over time, students earn points for personal achievements in their lessons and visits, which in turn earn them special recognition from the academy and one-on-one Q&A sessions with Black Beauty.

With its tall pine trees, abundant wildlife, and rushing streams, Enumclaw Golf Course appears as if it were sculpted in the middle of a public park—because that's exactly what it is. The 18-hole layout wends its way through King County's Enumclaw Park in the outskirts of the much larger Mt. Rainier National Park, a scant 30 miles to the south. Though relatively short at 5,561 yards in length, the par 70 layout puts players in a contest with densely wooded surroundings and foothills. Early tee times may also afford glimpses of wildlife such as deer, elk, coyote, and bald eagles, as well as the tadpoles in Boise Creek that will one day turn into loyal caddies.
