The sprawling grounds at Miller Equestrian Services host lessons for riders of all experience levels, training programs for horses, and youth summer camps. Morgan and saddlebred horses inhabit the facility's 44 stalls and eagerly transport riders to the grounds' two arenas, bullpen, driving track, and live sunrises and sunsets. Miller's horses and riders showcase the fruits of their lessons and training during year-round horse shows.
San Diego Fencing Center’s experienced coaches thrust confidence, improved agility, and the thrill of competition upon the suited shoulders of their dedicated disciples. After undertaking two lessons a week for one month, youths will know how to artfully parry foil flicks with proper footwork whilst advancing and riposting in turn. The Center’s six grounded, regulation-size strips allow for extensive hands-on training, and onsite shower facilities and convenient parking are a boon to parents and dusty compact cars.
Swing, summersault, and soar through the air on a trapeze with today's Groupon, $25 for a 90-minute trapeze class at Trapeze High (a $50 value). It's worth the 30-minute drive to Escondido to learn how to throw yourself off a platform 23 feet in the air and gracefully bounce butterflicticly through the heavens, performing spectacular acrobatic maneuvers. Learning trapeze tricks is an once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it's plenty of fun. Frequent trapeze binges are the reason Cirque du Soleil performers look so happy.
The 18-hole Reidy Creek Golf Course covers 2,582 yards in the rugged hills of Escondido, supplying guests with a scenic backdrop for club-based revelry. The rolling terrain of the par 54 course—intertwined with manmade obstacles such as sculpted bunkers, sinuous lakes, and wind—challenges golfers as they attempt holes-in-one. The distinctive course, designed by the notable engineers at Cal Olson Golf Architecture not to contain any two identical holes, contains a golf shop, café, and golf clinics taught by PGA professionals. ______________ Operating out of five courses throughout the greater San Diego area, JC Golf's Intro2Golf program fosters pin-hunting prowess with a shrewd blend of hands-on instruction, individual practice, and on-course experience designed to introduce the basics of golf to beginners. During the pressure-free sessions, JC Golf equips pupils with all the necessary equipment, saving neophytes the hassle of rustling up their own sets of clubs or graphite shaft bananas. Three additional buckets of range balls grant golfers the spherical tools necessary to implant newly learned concepts into muscle memory. The package also allows clubbers to loop the links at their chosen course twice after 4 p.m. for an additional $10 per round, allowing them to test their mettle amid the brambly hazards and sand-trap curmudgeons found on every real course.
Steel blades rhythmically slice the ice across two spacious rinks at Ice-Plex (formerly Iceoplex Escondido), an all-purpose facility pairing leisurely open skates with practiced instruction from director Courtney Moebs and a staff of pro figure skaters. Specialties span everything from choreography and freestyle to ice dancing and yeti dodging, though basic lessons for both kids and adults are also available. Public-skating sessions beckon amateurs and experts on a daily basis, during which skaters can emulate the moves of their favorite hockey players. Replete with a well-appointed gym, indoor pool, and jacuzzi, an attached fitness center offers classes in aerobics, aquatics, and an aquatic-aerobics class led by an off-duty Aquaman.
At five years old, Kenny Mathews started learning piano right around the time he started learning to read. After touring with a rock n' roll band and teaching for two decades, he's not only musically literate—he's downright multi-lingual. His expertise encompasses trumpet, flute, saxophone, guitar, and ukelele—but his specialty is encouragement. Regardless of the instrument, he helps his students feel comfortable whether they're playing alone or performing for an audience of jittery grisly bears. He supplements his private lessons with recital prep, and remains a source of patient support for his pupils throughout their learning process.
