  • Viva! Vegetarian Grill
When Dave Wagenheim started selling tofu dogs in downtown Eugene in 2006, he had no idea his modest venture would blossom into Viva! Vegetarian Grill, a food cart honored as the city's third best by Eugene Weekly in 2012. From his corner on 12th Avenue and Willamette Street, as well as a café inside the Eugene Family YMCA, the team crafts a rotating selection of 100% vegan and vegetarian items. Those include Polish-style soysage, locally made organic tempeh tossed in a vegan hot-wing sauce, and an original vegan soft serve made from a cashew base, rather than just the ice part of ice cream. Organic coffee from Wandering Goat Coffee Co., organic chai and rooibos teas, and a selection of organic juices complement each meatless feast. Along with the mainstay locations, the Viva! team feeds hungry herbivores at music and arts festivals throughout the Northwest.

  • Eugene Yoga
Eugene Yoga's team of yoga instructors builds a community of holistic wellness-seekers with a robust and diverse lineup of 61 Hatha-based yoga classes, which take place in two rooms. More advanced students can try Power Flow, which features a strengthening flow of postures designed to build muscle and coordination. Women can hone their practice during ladies-only sessions that promote strong bodies and self-confidence in a noncompetitive atmosphere. In addition to focusing on safe and sustainable yoga for all members of the community, yogis also sell premium mats and props, as well as clothing and gifts from local vendors.

  • ZenSpot Eugene
ZenSpot’s hot yoga classes are the opposite of cutting edge—instead, they use techniques of enhancing one’s flexibility with heat that draw on a 5,000-year-old art. In a studio heated to slightly above the human body’s typical 98.6 degrees, certified hot yoga teachers lead Vinyasa-style classes, transitioning seamlessly between poses rather than pausing between each one to yell “Yoga!” The yoga classes facilitate holistic wellness. Outside the yoga studio, the center offers lessons in Feng Shui and human empowerment—a broad title for services that include life coaching, nutrition, and stress management. With the philosophy that all living and non living matter are connected, Feng Shui sessions strive to create a more balanced home by decluttering and organizing living and work areas. Life-coaching sessions aim for balance as well; the studio's coaches encourage clients to take time to examine who they are and what is important to them without the influence of external pressures.

  • Freedom Yoga and Meditation
Led by founder Sandy Adler, certified Anusara instructor, Freedom Yoga's instructors lead classes throughout the week for both beginners and more advanced students. Instructors tap into their experience, skill, and dedication to help students develop a safe and meaningful yoga practice, searching within themselves and their pupils to align spiritual centers, increase strength, and boost flexibility. Rather than using intense exercises or giant marionette strings to affect the mind and body from the outside, Anusara's poses originate from within the body, using deliberate breath and movement as a form of meditation to hone the mind while helping the body increase its strength and balance.
