In the minds of politicians and geography teachers, Austin is the indisputable capital of Texas. But Arlington can at least claim to be the state's capital of adrenaline-inducing thrills. That's all thanks to Six Flags Over Texas and its collection of wooden and steel roller coasters. The tallest, Titan, sends riders racing down a 255-foot drop until they reach a top speed of 85 miles per hour?and that's only the beginning.

Beneath Titan's towering peak stretches a park that's home to more than 100 rides, live shows, and other attractions. Befitting the park's international theme, different areas pay homage to foreign countries such as France and Mexico. Texas has plenty of representation as well, namely the New Texas Giant. An updated version of the park's classic Texas Giant, this coaster features trains modeled after vintage Cadillacs.

Other sections of the park are ripped straight from the pages of a comic book. At Gotham City, Batman? The Ride turns the Caped Crusader into an inverted roller coaster; the ride will be even more thrilling when it's turned backwards this summer. Elsewhere, the Looney Tunes gang takes over Bugs Bunny Boomtown and its 10 kid-friendly attractions. Hang around for a while, and you might even get to shake hands with Bugs Bunny himself.

Here are a couple of tips to help you navigate the park:

  • Consider purchasing a THE FLASH PASS, which lets you reserve a spot in line without actually having to wait in line.
  • Catch a concert, Wild West cabaret show, or another form of live entertainment.
  • Grab a bite at one of the park's many restaurants, which serve everything from burgers to Asian cuisine.

The smooth, pastel-tone corridors of Mountasia Family Fun Park?s two 18-hole miniature golf courses encircle the rising crags of a central waterfall that cascades past greens of orb-rolling entertainment. Putt-putt parties of all ages can choose from two different courses, navigating around obstacles that include burbling rapids and caves. The turn-filled go-kart course provides tandem go-karts so youngsters can join the four-wheel fun, and inside batting cages patrons flail away using a trusty bat. Elsewhere onsite, water enthusiasts are invited to enjoy bumper boats, Mountasia's 30-foot rock wall beckons to altitude-immune adventurers, virtual thrills reside in the video arcade, and guests take aim at each other in a post-apocalyptic laser tag area.

How long does it take a two-person inner tube to travel 1,161 feet when it’s impeded by misting water and several altitude changes, including an 81-foot drop? Well, as proven by the Green Extreme uphill water coaster, the answer is a little more than a minute. This extreme thrill ride is one of many aquatic attractions at NRH2o Family Water Park. Guests can also zip down enclosed and open-body slides, spin around tube slides, lounge on Beachside Bay’s sand beaches, or partake in family-friendly activities such as the 660-foot lazy river and the five-level water playground. Augmenting the splash-happy structures, the park hosts monthly events that range from fireworks to movie screenings in the 12,000-square-foot wave pool, which makes it more difficult for people to reserve entire rows of seats for their friends who haven’t arrived yet.

Velocity's coaches, many of whom are trained in kinesiology and exercise science, lead heart-pounding fitness programs for adults and children ages 8 and older. The one-hour movement sessions gather an ever-shifting array of exercises calculated to increase kids' speed and agility and challenge grownups' coordination more than their offices' annual air-hockey-based performance reviews. Small groups of 15 people work to reach their peak performance level under the coach's custom-tailored tutelage. After the program, strengthened bodies may measure their tangible successes in greater endurance, improved metabolism, and an abandoned belief that stale Twizzler jousts counts as exercise.

The guides at DFWAP Adventures lead treks throughout DFW Adventure Park's 176 acres, where families, church groups, and coworkers rely upon communication and teamwork to conquer challenges ranging from paintball scenarios to scavenger hunts through the wilderness. Colleagues trade in their eight-hour workday for corporate boot camp on the challenge course by tackling conflict resolution and dealing with stress. Emergency Services Services trainees can practice through wilderness search and vertical rescue, as well as tactical medic scenarios. Groups can also plan a multi-venue event combining paintball, a wilderness challenge course, obstacle race, and ziplines for a full day adventure.
