Since its founding in 1980, Sun & Ski Sports has remained true to its philosophy: “do a few things, but do them better than anybody else.” The shop stocks equipment in five categories of extreme and outdoor activities, including camping, skating, running, bicycling, and water and snow sports. It specializes in these to ensure its merchandise maintains a high standard of quality, and its employees are knowledgeable participants in the sports their department represents.
Bikers can drop off their steeds for tune-ups from certified mechanics who put all brands through the rigors of a 12-point inspection, checking chains and adjusting wobbly pedals and malfunctioning spoke-card motors. While waiting, curious eyes might linger on a North Face two-person tent, a Blackburn Airtower bicycle pump, or a vast selection of shoes from brands such as New Balance and Asics. Men and women can traipse nearly barefoot in the park with Vibram FiveFingers, which offer minimal structural encumbrances for a more natural stride, or cast their feet aside for the new-wheeled prowess that comes with a Fuji SL-1 LE Ultegra performance road bike.

Instructors David Freeman and Jerry Colliver both served in the military; David piloted medical-evacuation helicopters during Vietnam, and Jerry operated nuclear-missile silos during the Cold War. Despite this experience, they prefer not to approach firearm use from a military perspective. Instead, the NRA-certified instructors teach with a relaxed style that's absent of jargon and acronyms. This approach helps students to feel comfortable owning, carrying, and shooting firearms.
During their classes, the duo emphasizes topics such as nonviolent dispute resolution, safe firearm storage, and the fundamentals of handgun shooting, which students further master with practice time on the range. David and Jerry employ similar techniques to teach beginner hunters Texas's hunting regulations.

It's a scene you'd expect to find on a private island. A canopy shades a beach party, where guests pull cold beverages from a cooler and munch grilled meats prepared over open charcoals by cooks. Just off the shore, a boat blasts music, giving a soundtrack to the festivities and making nearby pirates regret canceling their satellite radio subscription.
North Texas Lake Charters' crew creates this oasis at Lake Ray Robert's party cove. Another one of their boats ferries party guests to and from the ramp at Isle Du Bois State Park. From this launch point, the company's captains take passengers on various aquatic adventures. Speedboats pull wake boarders and water-skiers, while fishing boats carry anglers out in search of a prized catch.
For Central Texas Fishing Guides’ Allen Morehouse and Tim Harrell the outdoors are more than just a hobby—they're a way of life. Morehouse was a professional bull rider until 2001, when the birth of his first son prompted him to choose a slightly tamer career path. He began guiding hunting, fly-fishing, and lake-fishing trips, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion with other nature enthusiasts. Harrell, on the other hand, has been fishing since he's been walking. Having grown up casting lures with his dad on Cedar Creek Lake, he extended his passion through his life, founding the Baylor Bass Club at Baylor University—one of the first programs in the country to join the collegiate Bassmasters circuit—and currently targeting white bass and crappie.
The duo takes groups of up to 20 anglers on full- or half-day adventures using boats designed for agility and comfort. The V8, 300-horsepower engine of the spacious ZX24V, for example, allows it to easily cut through waves on the open water and navigate shallow inlets in search of float-through fast-food restaurants.
