When not busy taming bucking broncos as a professional bull rider, fitness aficionado and owner of Firm Body Boot Camp Ryan Ehmann helps physiques to evict calories during boot-camp workouts and vivacious Zumba classes. Ryan helps guests to blitz unwanted flab with a series of pushups, sit-ups, and various machine and free-weight exercises, each set to the motivational exhortations of the skilled fitness instructor and his animatronic dumbbell backup singers. To help fortify the workout's results away from the gym, Ehmann equips boot-camp contestants with a bundle of exercise extras, including motivational tactics, diet tips, and workout DVDs, which unveil proper warm-up techniques before guiding muscles through a carefully calibrated step-by-step routine.
Lindsay and Darla Roselle, the stepdaughter-stepmother team that co-owns Mindstream Yoga, share their passion for yoga to help their students achieve healthier lifestyles. They've gathered a team of more than 20 instructors to guide students through their signature MainStream Vinyasa flow class, increase intensity during PowerStream's faster-paced sessions, and mix up workouts with weights, cardio intervals, and body-sculpting exercises during CrossStream classes. They kick the studio's high-efficiency heat and humidity system up to 105 degrees during hot yoga classes, which helps bodies detoxify and sink deeper into stretches. The staff doesn't associate their yoga practice with any religious tradition, instead choosing to focus on the connection between the mind and body. Mindstream Yoga's modern studio is a LEED-certified sustainable building, and professional cleaners spruce up the place with nontoxic cleaning products and yoga pants made of Brillo pads. Images of the Colorado landscape, snapped by local photographers, adorn the lobby, where students can grab a complimentary organic apple before heading to the locker room to shower.
During her 19-year career, Tonja Hadley—or “Coach T” as her students call her—has motivated athletes to victory at the NCAA’s Division I and Division II levels. Now leading boot-camp classes at The Edge Sports Center, the registered strength and conditioning coach applies her wealth of fitness expertise to students looking to get in shape. Her workouts combine the benefits of cardio and strength training into a single rigorous routine. Students rapidly move from exercises on body balls to floor routines and lifting weights, keeping pulses pounding and muscles guessing. Classes are sometimes held on The Edge Sports Center's 22,000 square foot indoor field so students can eschew drawn-out stints on the treadmill.
Sunlight streams through the floor-to-ceiling windows at The Zone Health and Fitness, illuminating rows of free weights, whirring cardio machines, and enthusiastic certified personal trainers and nutritional consultants. Owner Greg Bobby helms the crack staff and uses his degrees in sports medicine and exercise physiology to carefully craft fitness routines aimed at stepping up metabolism through resistance training, cardio workouts, nutritional guidance, and vitamin supplements. Guests and members can partake of myriad group fitness classes such as yoga, spinning, and kickboxing, or devise their own workout regimes with the bountiful free weights and machines at their disposal.
As a teenager, Master Mauricio Zingano studied under members of Brazilian jujitsu's founding family, the Gracies, including Grand Master Helio Gracie himself. Nowadays, at Zingano Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he and his seasoned staff—which includes his wife, UFC fighter Cat Zingano—relay the Gracie family's teachings to students young and old. Although their main program is Brazilian jujitsu, they also fit mixed martial arts, muay thai kickboxing, and youth martial arts classes into the jam-packed schedule.
David Clair’s number one goal as the director and a trainer at Fitness For Living Boot Camps is to lead his patrons in having fun. He says, “If it is not fun, you won’t do it; you’ll always have an internal struggle staying motivated.” Here, the strong muscles, solid core, and slimmer waistline just happen to be a byproduct of having fun in the outdoors.
The trainers motivate clients to whip into shape with a series of smile-inducing fitness activities that often incorporate teamwork, including obstacle courses, games of soccer or basketball, and relay races. To further hone in on flexibility, strength, and balance training, campers complete a high-intensity regimen of CrossFit, TRX suspension, and Tabata training, interspersed with heaving sand bags and jumping rope. Alternatively, the Powerfit yoga camps take a blend of flowing Vinyasa-style yoga poses and Pilates techniques to the outdoors. The sessions focus on toning core muscles and building strength and flexibility. The trainers also help clients slim down with nutrition tips and meal-plan programs, and send out motivating emails that have nothing to do with money-hungry princes.
