After living in Utah for a decade, Gary and Jana Cole fell in love with the mountains, inspiring them to open their namesake store in 1982 as a means of helping others enjoy the region's snowy slopes and rugged trails. At four locations throughout Park City, alpine adventurers can rent or buy name-brand skis and snowboards to replace their trusty but outdated cafeteria trays, gear up with fashionable and practical snow-sport apparel from brands such as Kjus and Bogner, or bring in worn-out equipment for expert repairs.

In the summer, Cole Sport helps athletes return to the outdoors after a fear of yetis kept them cooped up inside all winter. Cyclists test out models from a fleet of Giant road, mountain, and cruise bikes at the Giant Bicycles concept store, and aquatic athletes can find Surftech stand-up paddleboards to help them explore Utah's natural lakes and in-ground pools.

Though the business still bears his mother's name, today it's Marty's son, Chip, who preaches the good news of outdoor and extreme sports at Marty's Ski and Board Shop. Like every lynx born on the side of a mountain, Chip has a natural love of skiiing and snowboarding, and he pours his three decades of outdoor experience into his work. Under his guidance, the crew at Marty's equips athletes with technology and gear from brands including Arbor, Rossignol, Dynastar, and Armata to blaze frozen trails and otherwise explore the great outdoors. In addition to its slew of retail skis and boards, winter-sports clothing, and biking apparel, the staff sharpens skis and tunes-up bicycles to keep shredders shredding and cyclists from becoming accidental unicyclists.

The cycling enthusiasts at 19 Sports help bikers stay pedaling year-round with bike tune-ups, outdoor bike ventures, and indoor training programs. The shop caters to hobbyists and professionals alike, with a selection of top industry apparel, accessories, and nutritional products. During the warmer months, group rides around the city and surrounding areas familiarize bikers with the bounty of trails and paths available to them. In the winter, indoor Computrainer sessions keep exercise regimens regaling without the need to mount bulky furnaces to the front of road bikes. The shop also provides road- and mountain-bike rentals from BMC.
