With two locations, long hours, and a bounty of equipment, Emerald City Athletic Club helps its members get in shape, whatever their workout of choice. Gym floors lined with regiments of Precor and Nautilus machines let members work every muscle in their bodies, and the class studios' high-tech sound systems energize Zumba, salsa dancing, and kickboxing sessions and keep stationary cycles from tearing around the room in loneliness each night. Free weights and intricate weight machines hold down the floor of a spacious weight room, where muscle sculptors work up a sweat before winding down in a dry sauna, Turkish steam bath, and hot tub. At the Everett location, an Olympic-style pool, a basketball court, and racquetball and handball courts offer even more variety.
Though the sword may seem an instrument of division, at SBM Wellness Center, it’s a uniting force. Here, kendo and wellness classes for men, women, and kids blend swordsmanship with cardiovascular exercise. This combination promotes fitness while instilling the mental discipline necessary to execute sharp cuts with explosive energy.
In the fitness industry, only a select few exercise pioneers enjoy widespread name recognition. Bikram Choudhury is one of them, and the instructors of Bikram Yoga Everett have earned that name by enduring his legendary nine-week training course. The program also keeps yogis on their toes by requiring recertification every three years. In the intense training sessions, aspiring instructors learn to make use of a heated environment to push the mental focus and muscular endurance of students during the 90-minute classes.
The Bikram Yoga Everett Studio welcomes visitors with a lobby bursting in bright primary colors and a spacious workout room swathed in natural sunlight. The computer-controlled temperature remains evenly regulated throughout the space, and a ventilation system provides a constant supply of fresh air, occasionally pumping in helium for cartoon voiceover workshops. Floors are covered in Zebra yoga mats that dramatically reduce joint strain.
Snohomish County's largest full-service family athletic club, Columbia Athletic Clubs has something for everyone. One hundred group exercise classes are offered each week; Cycle Cross takes place in the cycling studio while Water Aerobics and Aqua Motion utilize the Big Pool. Hot yoga and classes in the Mind/Body Studio come included with each membership. There's also an indoor Salt-Pure lap pool for advanced swimmers and shiny-sunken-object-retrievers. A talented group of personal trainers work with clients to get the most out of every workout.
The club's amenities extend beyond pure fitness. The Silver Lake Cafe serves up healthy and tasty meals, and massage therapy is offered onsite. At the Kids Club, youngens can play games under the supervision of an experienced staff while parents hit the gym.
The instructors at Harp Health & Fitness work to help their students burn fat and increase muscle strength during each boot-camp class. After an initial assessment, the instructors guide students in proper form during resistance, cardio, and speed and agility training. For best results, the staff members recommend a nutrition plan for each student to follow during boot camp.

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Our motto is, "Fitness is fun the GYMagine way." Learning how to move your body forward, backward, sideways, and upside down gives our students exciting ways to be fit through gymnastics.
Sweating to the oldies is acceptable, but sweating to the blues less so. Do you find that certain styles and genres of music generate more intense workouts?
Music and exercise are a major part of everyone's fitness today. Once our gymnasts learn new skills, they need to keep repeating them so that they can master them. Repetition can seem boring at times, but [listening to] music can turn it into a fun process.
When and how did you first develop a passion for fitness?
When I learned my first gymnastics skill by myself, I wanted to do it again and again.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Gymnastics is truly the best crossover sport for all sports. The balance, coordination, strength, and agility you learn can excel your performances in other sports and activities.
