Planet 301 plunges families into a world of friendly competition with two floors and 32,000 square feet of hands-on games and activities. Each three-hour pass turns gamers loose in Planet 301’s fully stocked funplex, unlocking complete access to its bowling and laser-tag arenas as well as acres of classic and state-of-the-art arcade games. After stealthily zapping foes with focused beams and busting piles of pins, patrons can hone real-world skills with a trip to the arcade, working on hand-eye coordination with a game of skee-ball, cataloging new breeds of waterfowl in a round of Wacky Ducks, and helping Donkey Kong register for community-college classes.
Garfield YMCA has promoted healthy lifestyles, youth development, and social responsibility for more than eight decades. While the organization has built new facilities, this core mission remains the same. Instructors teach fitness and swim classes for both kids and adults, and they coach competitive swimming teams at two locations in Garfield. The staff also keeps kids active and safe during before- and after-school care programs.
At Energy Fitness & Performance Center, members can decide what workout suits them best. That's because the sprawling facility allows them to exercise on their own, in a group, or one-on-one with a personal trainer. They can create a personalized workout with treadmills, ellipticals, and free weights in the sun-soaked gym. Or, they can head to the studio for fitness classes such as spinning, Zumba, and boot camp. They can also get pointers on bench-pressing and building muscles during personal training sessions. These sessions are designed to help members reach individual goals such as completing a marathon or having a town in Greece unveil you as a Zeus statue.
Any day of the week, hop over to The Sports Place for rollicking barrels of unrefined fun in batting cages, game rooms, full basketball courts, laser-tag zones, and more. The inflatable playground provides kids of any age with space to jump, roll, climb, and dive on anything from an oversized dragon to an appropriately sized mega-slide ($9 all-day admission per person). For additional all-ages fun, swing through The Sports Place's signature GloPutt mini-golf course, a Neotastic, glow-in-the-dark wonderland packed with motorized obstacles that, if dodged correctly, light up the faces and giggleplexes of any child ($7 per round per person). As soon as visitors set foot in the Mind Body Studio, they're set at ease by a modern lounge area, which boasts sleek bamboo floors, exposed brick walls, and sprigs of verdant plants. Inside the workout space, classes such as yoga and the barre method emphasize the mind-body connection. The Nalini Method classes also push students toward inner harmony with a combination of Pilates, aerobics, barre work, and yoga, helping students de-stress while toning limbs and burning calories without ever tossing any cheesecakes into open flames.
