With a name that means "where the paths cross," it's no surprise that Calleva is dedicated to bringing people of all ages and from all walks of life together to appreciate the outdoors. The certified MAEOE environmental center helps its guests dive into the heart of the wilderness right outside D.C. and raise awareness about its delicate ecosystems. In doing so, it encourages others to cooperate and take risks while stepping out of their comfort zones, like baby birds leaving the nest to start their own nest-building business.
To facilitate these efforts, a team of ACA-certified guides helms seasonal outdoor-adventure and educational programs. In warm weather, activities might include kayaking and canoeing down winding stretches of the Potomac River or paddling to a private island filled with ropes-challenge courses and other obstacles. Fishing and ecological-study programs present even more varied ways to explore the water. Other adventures include the year-round, such as backpacking; the cold weather, such as caving; and the whimsical, such as the annual haunted forest where ghosts and ghouls mingle under a zip-line course.

If it is your first time fly fishing, we will discuss and practice the basics of casting, tying knots, selecting flies, and finding fish. We will show you how to setup your fly rod and tie on flies, depending on what we are fishing for.
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
Fishing comes with with alot of unexpected events. Our instructors and guides work to resolve any situations that arise. They are also certified in first aid and CPR.

Warm-up yoga maneuvers awaken muscles before 30–40 minutes of breathing, stretching, core practice, and meditation—including a signature brain-wave vibration technique that aims to calibrate mental and physical energies. Cool-down exercises ease the body back into quotidian functionality before a 10-minute teatime invites socialization among participants while bolstering pinkie endurance. Dahn Yoga is also taught at independently owned and operated franchises called Body & Brain Yoga.
The imposing tree lines on either side of the par 5 first hole at Cross Creek Golf Club frame the ideal shot right off the teebox, like two sides of a leafy goalpost. The crossbar, then, is the medium-size pond just past the tees?the first of 12 encounters with water players will have over the duration of the round. As with so many situations found throughout the course, the shot demands steely nerves, much like asking for chocolate syrup on a hotdog. Even so, the opening gambit can bode well for the rest of the round?there are only two par 5s on the course, making a solid opening drive a player's best shot at securing a solid score.

"I am magnificent. I am powerful," is the mantra fitness instructor Carl J. Powell III strives to instill into his students, hoping to empower them with the knowledge that they can take charge of their health. To help students make these changes, Carl—a wellness guru who has been featured in Ebony magazine—has made more than 20 fitness videos, and has traveled the world training dancers. His team of instructors leads private and group fitness classes at The Magnificent Body. They lead Pilates, yoga, and three styles of barre, which blends ballet, yoga, and Pilates exercises to sculpt long, lean figures. Before students come to their first class, Carl assesses their athletic abilities and fitness goals in a 30-minute personal consultation.
Further encouraging folks to live healthier lifestyles, Carl hosts Magnificent Living, a one-hour talk show that airs on Laurel Cable. Six days a week, he doles out exercise and diet advice, such as eating fruits and veggies instead of butter sculptures.
Golf requires power, precision, and soft touch, and Laurel Golf Center helps players hone all three at one location. Covered hitting stalls facilitate year-round practice at the driving range, where golfers can take aim at six target greens or try to nestle their golf ball inside a passing cloud. Short game practice areas let golfers hone chips, pitches, and shots with awkward lies from a practice bunker. To perfect their feel around the greens, guests can roll through the 18-hole miniature golf course.
