The color blue comes in many shades, be it periwinkle, powder blue, or baby blue. Should you name a shade of blue, there's a good chance that color graces the walls of MLO Salon. In an effort to channel the calming, peaceful feeling of water, trickling streams, and leaky faucets that drip to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," MLO’s owner, Maria Orbinati, latched onto a blue color palette and never looked back. The end result was a calming, modern feel—yet one set in elegant relief by Greek columns and arches. Almost as an homage to the décor, the staff performs a deep hydration facial to mitigate wrinkles with a hyaluronic system. But this relaxing environment serves as an ideal locale for spa services beyond just facials; the team also renders hair, makeup, and nail treatments.
A quaint, powder-blue building houses Donatella's Salon & Day Spa, an oasis of pampering that beckons weary patrons with promises of health and beauty from head to toe. The staff welcomes guests by first ushering them to a changing room, where they can slip into a robe and slippers or a comfortable San Diego Chicken ensemble. Before relishing in a cellulite-reducing, toning vacuum massage or an anti-aging facial, patrons can indulge in the spa's rainfall shower equipped with massage jets, then take time out for themselves in the aromatherapy sauna. A quiet room allows for more time to relax, meditate, or read. As an Aveda concept salon, Donatella's utilizes plant-sourced products, such as textured organic marshmallow-root lotions, to leave skin feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
Stacey, the proprietor of Stacey's Permanent Solutions, first opened the doors to her own salon 25 years ago. From humble beginnings, the business has expanded to a 1,000-square-foot salon with four additional stylists. Stacey's philosophy of “beauty from the inside out” and her own allergies undergird the salon’s use of natural, organic JKS, Holistix, and Retrohair salon products instead of harsh styling methods employing heavy-duty chemicals or belt sanders.
Stacey believes that her job isn't just about cutting, coloring, and conditioning hair. “It’s psychology, too,” she says, describing her way of setting clients at ease with conversation and soothing essential oils as she transforms their appearance. Her conviction that everyone should have the chance to both look and feel good has even inspired Stacey to offer at-home services for clients with special needs.
“Bring me your don’t, I’ll make it your do,” says Reddick’s Beauty Salon cosmetologist Shana Hulholland. Shana’s fellow stylists share her sentiments; under the leadership of owner Joe Reddick, they strive to create edgy, modern styles with haircuts, color and texturizing treatments, and mani-pedis. Treatments take place in the sunset-hued salon, which is lined with 12 hair stations and 14 nail stations set aglow by contemporary pendant lighting and jars of fireflies.
