Carrie DeLozier wanted to create a place for women where time disappeared and they could be truly free to focus on their bodies and minds without the distractions of the outside world. That vision became barre54. Each of her studio’s spacious interiors flatters bodies with natural light shining through floor-to-ceiling windows and chandeliers hanging from exposed ceilings. Instructors with backgrounds in dance, theater, and modeling lead 54-minute sessions of isometric exercises and orthopedic stretches, earning the Winter Park location the title of Best Workout Facility from the Orlando Sentinel. The program is an extension of the Lotte Berk Method developed in the 1950s by the German dancer of the same name. Ms. Berk used the body-aligning movements of ballet to recondition her body after a car accident. Since then, various incarnations of her exercises have been practiced by thousands of students including celebrities such as Madonna, Kelly Ripa, and the all-animal cast of Fantasia.

The staff members of Winter Park Health & Fitness have devoted themselves to a simple mission: creating a welcoming space for members to set and achieve fitness goals. In addition to keeping cardio machines and Nautilus strength-training equipment spick-and-span, they're always available to answer questions and help members work out more effectively. Weekday childcare enables parents to stop in for classes that include indoor cycling, three types of yoga, and Pilates. Trainers can also show members how to use the gym's TRX suspension bands to leverage their body weight for workouts during personal-training sessions, which incorporate strength training and metabolic testing that reveals how many calories clients must burn or consume to successfully body-double for Dolph Lundgren.

Length, grace, and a healthy body. These are the focuses of Barre3 founder Sadie Lincoln. To achieve these results collectively, however, Sadie knew she needed to come up with a completely new routine. Working with yogis, professional dancers, doctors, and athletes, she created the Barre3 system. It's a three-step sequence that consists of isometric holds, low-impact movements, and recovery stretching. This combination strengthens cores and aligns postures while sculpting long, lean muscles and burning calories. While upbeat music fills the studio, trainers lead small groups through a heart-racing sequence of yoga-inspired poses and pilates-based exercises. The ballet barre comes into use when striking muscle-building dance poses and stretches.

It's a system that has had proven results, which has spurred the successful growth of Barre3 locations throughout the country. Today, fitness enthusiasts can find a Barre3 studio in 18 states, the District of Columbia, and the Philippines. An easy-to-follow routine, Barre3 can also be performed at home with online workouts. These workouts are designed to fit busy schedules with routines that range from 10?60 minutes. All that's needed for online workouts is a Barre3 core ball, weights, an exercise mat, and a sturdy, waist-high surface such as the top of Danny DeVito's head.

Vanessa Valentin knew her own health and happiness increased through practicing dance and fitness, and she wanted to help other people feel the same way. She opened RhythmX to make it happen, a fitness and dance studio focused on Latin and hip-hop grooves.

Here, Vanessa and 10 other instructors conduct three types of Zumba classes, including Zumba, Zumba Toning, and Zumba Sentao, along with Latin hip-hop sessions. Unlike most hip-hop classes, which teach students a set routine, their sessions work to arm students with a core set of moves, helping them feel more comfortable on the dance floor.
