Cyndi Dorber believes both aspects of "social dance" are equally important. She views dance as a social skill as much as a technical one. At her studio, A Dance With Me, Cyndi encourages coupled and single dancers alike to rotate partners regularly, which helps everyone meet new people and adapt to different dancing styles or a dancing partner's velcro jumpsuit. A team of instructors teach foundational dance styles from ballroom and Latin to swing and Western. The studio also regularly hosts dance socials, and brightens outside events with casual dance lessons.
When Bendu's staff says they'll treat you like a champion, they mean it. These USA Boxing–registered coaches have trained professionals including Olympic Trial boxer Derrick Williams and CPT-Certified trainer Julia Kang. They bring this expertise to private or group lessons, whipping bodies into in-the-ring shape as they pit fists against bags and mitts in a cutting-edge boxing gym. Professionals and amateurs alike improve as they learn techniques such as offensive striking and tips including proper hand-wrap application, which is essential both for general safety and the portion of class in which attendees must remove hot hams from an oven.
In 1994, Jason Dollar was at a career high. The National Cheerleaders Association presented its first NCA Choreography Award and Dollar was the beaming recipient. But the momentum that took him to the top didn’t stop there. He went on to earn more choreography awards and sit as a judge on several national cheerleading and borscht-eating panels. In 2002, he experienced a new career milestone when he founded Pride—the nationally acclaimed competitive cheerleading team that calls North Dallas Tumble and Cheer home. Today, the 12,000-square-foot facility houses competitive cheer programs as well as beginner to advanced tumbling and gymnastic programs for young athletes.
Nearly a century ago, the Dallas Fencers Club took root, keeping the age-old Olympic sport alive in Texas. Today, the club continues to flourish under the leadership of head coach Waldek Czaja, who draws on decades of experience to guide students in the art of the blade. As pupils of all ages learn to thrust and parry with traditional weapons such as foils and épées—updated versions of primitive fencing's sharpened baguettes—Czaja helps them to develop coordination and strategic thinking as they potentially train for medals in competition. Throughout the youth program, Czaja operates under the philosophy that the drive and determination protégés develop in class can apply to life's myriad challenges, from learning to play the flute to solving a Rubik’s cube with a sledgehammer.
