The season finale of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra comes to a dramatic Deutschlandic conclusion, with a showcase of classical German music spanning three centuries. Join conductor, ivory tickler, and SPCO artistic partner Christian Zacharias, who has conducted both the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic orchestras, as he begins the evening with an elegant performance of Piano Concerto in D Minor by C. P. E. Bach. Zacharias will then resume vertical posture to conduct Schumann's Spring Symphony, a piece composed from Schumann's fast-flowing heart and mind during his honeymoon period with pianist wife, Clara Wieck. Enjoy this evening of joyous classical music, and attend the SPCO before the offseason starts.

Currently celebrating their 25th year, the Artaria String Quartet honed their bows under the revered Budapest, Kolisch, and Julliard string quartets before bringing their sweeping chamber music to audiences throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. Presented as part of Hamline University’s Sundin Music Hall series, the two-hour concert will provide sonic samplers from eight movements by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, whose compositions continue to influence the classical-music cognoscenti and purveyors of tiny violins the world over. The quartet’s latest CD is included with today's Groupon, which allows music buffs to conduct Artaria’s dulcet interpretations of movements by Mozart and Shostakovich in the comfort of their own concert halls or silent sections of their local library.

Minnesota Orchestra celebrates its second century as one of America’s premier symphonic ensembles, gathering accolades from publications such as the New York Times. Concerts take place at Orchestra Hall, where a wooden floor with a one-inch separation from its supporting structure enhances the evening's acoustics, enlivening orchestral sounds and preventing midair collisions between muddled notes.

Special guest John Legend will also throw his honeyed voice into the ring, soothing ears that have been damaged by the cacophony of city life and the screeching of prima-donna chalkboards.
