ArtWorks on the Square inspires the creatively disposed with a variety of classes, workshops, and events. Encourage your inner artisan with a Vino Van Gogh Night class, which offers a night of painting, conversing, and wine drinking from 7 p.m.–9 p.m. on the second Friday of every month. Each vinely inclined class can accommodate up to 12 students and is led by a professional canvas caresser, who issues step-by-step instructions to help keep brush strokes on the straight and narrow and prevent students from accidentally painting a hole in the universe.
As a Georgia native, photographer R. Garrett Reid knows where to scope out scenic locales that will backdrop his family portraits, senior shots, and lifestyle photos. Combining a keen eye for photojournalism with an auteur’s sense of storytelling, he captures visual narratives through a deft control of natural light and visual blends of soft and rough textures.
Mike Moreland's portfolio bursts apart at the seams with the work of more than 15 years in architecture, fashion, and advertising photography. The award-winning photographer's three-hour workshops, typically lead by two–four expert shutterbugs, teach neophytes and hobbyists the tricks and tools to snap professional-grade shots. After 45 minutes of instruction, students spend just over two hours honing their burgeoning skills, capturing images on their own DSLRs or with a chisel and stone tablet. Guests walk out of the sessions knowing how to manipulate light sensors, how to adjust shutter speeds with a special emphasis on nature photography, and the basics of studio lighting, wedding portraiture, and shooting in urban settings. Airbrush Tanning gilds sun-thirsty bodies with a natural tanning solution in the convenience of the home. Give skin the golden pleasure of a custom organic full-body airbrush tan, in which an organic concoction of water, aloe vera, glycerin, white tea, grapefruit oils, and nontoxic sugars hug tight the amino acids on the uppermost layer of dermal sod. An experienced airbrush specialist will apply an even tan in 30–40 minutes, including setup time, take-down time, and Nerf-war time. By containing sprays within a mobile, pop-up tent, the dermal doyens ensure an applied shade that will last 5–14 days without the worry of a chaotic mess.
Informed by an ever-growing body of developmental research, classes at The Music Class introduce tots to tunes and concepts that boost creativity and listening skills. In Music Pups (a $72 value) courses, children under 4 years of age gleefully sing, dance, and bang away on rudimentary instruments such as the drums or theremin. Four and 5-year-olds learn concepts of tone and rhythm in the Music Cats course (a $77 value), which lets kids experiment with keyboards before defending their dissertations on the narrative redundancies of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." Each 45-minute course meets four times in one month-long segment, and includes CDs for parents to play at home to follow up on in-class tutelage. This Groupon may also be used toward The Music Class' ten-week music courses.
At Applause For Kids, children can cultivate self-confidence and self-awareness through a supportive program that helps them develop singing, dancing, acting, and even costume-creating skills. Children will attend camp between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, while Friday camps start at 10 a.m., with a week-ending showcase performance.
